I don't know if you read my thread, "The Sequel Formula," but it basically explains where they usually go wrong with sequels. Basically... -Well-developed characters are often flattened. -While the original story was a relatively original one, the sequel is almost always a formulaic plot that's been used ad nauseam. -If the sequel involves the child of the previous protagonist, the parents have a tendancy to suddenly become washed-up old fogies. And as AG mentioned earlier, we're basically watching a younger, hipper version of Mom or Dad having the same adventure again.
*Nods* Exactly! And what's worse, it seems that rather than try to make a sequel that will appeal to everyone, they take out whatever charm it had for the adults and toss together some kind of sludge that is aimed for no-one over the age of ten. 'Course, maybe it's because parents have to sit through a theater release along with their children, but with DTV releases, all the parents have to do is buy the video and let the kids watch it while they do something else, so the creators don't put in the effort to make it digestible for the adults as well.
It's not that sequels can't be done well - because they can. For example, Toy Story 2 was excellent, in my opinion. No cheap, dime-a-dozen plot was tossed onto the characters; rather, it was done with the same quality as the first movie. Also, while Aladdin and the King of Thieves didn't have the visual quality of the first movie, I enjoyed it very much. And on a sidenote, I know of some people who liked Inspector Gadget 2 much more than the first one, as IG2 was to them what the first one should have been.
I noticed that. I totally hated the recoloration of his outfit at first, too - until I realized that if it actually was red like it should have been, it looks pretty good.

Jafar in pink just shouldn't happen.
His outfit looked a shade of pink in the second movie. Maybe not Barbie pink, but it wasn't as red as it should have been.

Sometimes I find myself wishing that they'd reanimate RoJ and KoT with high-quality animation. I'm pretty sure they could fake it on a computer at this point.
Yeah. Then Jafar wouldn't have worn pink.

You know, I wanted that too for the DVD release. I mean, they brightened and cleaned-up everything for it, why not re-do it? But then there's time and money and all these other factors that would come into play. Maybe for the 20th anniversary?

I didn't care much for RoJ, but i'm glad they made it otherwise they wouldn't have made KoT, which I really liked. If thye had made KoT in the same animation as the first one, then it would have been better as well.

Well, if you think all sequels are bad you'd hate RoJ because it was the first DTV "sequel" and if it wasn't so profitable they'd never have made others.
And we still get the better of the deal because ours doesn't suck as much as everyone elses

The wrong thing about sequels is The Return of Jafar?

What's wrong with Disney sequels? Four words. The Return of Jafar. Honestly I hate it! And I love Jafar!
You just don't like it because they killed him off.

You know what's crazy? My dad went to see the first movie in theaters when he was a kid.
