it got only one Tony nom. Kinda sad...there arnt even very many good shows out. i hate all the plays and most of the musicals(minusLestat&Sweeney). Tarzan's going for, i think, best lighting design in a musical. |

Yeah, I've so far heard more negative-to-mediocre reactions, but a lot of big theatre critics don't like Disney musicals on principle; they say that it cheapens the art form of a musical taking 'kid cartoons' and making them shows. And I know I have a bias to like things done by Disney, so I feel like I will probably enjoy it. We shall see someday, perhaps. |

I just saw a review for Tarzan on the five o'clock news. This lady said it was absoutely horrible. I won't judge it until I've seen it myself, though, since some of my favrorite movies got awful reviews. |

I bought today's USA Today and they had a review of Tarzan on Broadway! They gave it 3 out of 4 stars and said that it's very impressive, visually, but the story itself is sensitively told and unpretentious. The reviewer liked the sincerity of it a lot and said the strength of storytelling and characters (at least Tarzan and Jane) kept it from being pure eye-candy, which could easily have happened.
I will say that I heard that preview audiences who saw it before the official opening and some musical theatre students in the New York area didn't have feedback that was as positive, but they say a show can change a lot from preview stage to official opening. And I read at Jim Hill Media that you really do want to avoid 'obstructed view' tickets at all costs; apparently large portions of the show cannot be seen or understood if you don't have a clear view of ALL of the stage.
I wonder if there's a way I'd be able to see the show when I'm home for the summer...I've seen BatB, TLK, and Aida in New York. I think I could afford a ticket; it's just a matter of finding someone to go with me. My parents aren't too keen on letting me take the train to NYC by myself, and I can't say I disagree with them. (My family seems, on the whole, to be much more excited about the stage version of Mary Poppins. I'd be thrilled to see either, and I do think that Poppins seems to lend itself more naturally to being a Broadway show.) |

Make sure you get good seats. Don't get any tickets with 'obstructed view!' Because of the theater that Tarzan is in, some seats just aren't good for viewing *at all.* At least that's what I heard. |

At first i was a little weirded out by the fact it was going, but i'm actully really glad it made the season. i'm not sure how all of it's going to be done on a STAGE, but i've heard good things about it. i'm going to go see it this summer. So we'll see... |

I heard this radio advertisement a couple of weeks ago saying Tarzan is now officially on Broadway! I haven't seen the movie in a while, but when I was little it was one of my favorites and I REALLY want to go Broadway to see it!
Is anyone else going to go? Do we have any other Tarzan fans in the house? |
