Weirdly enough, as much as I usually like your lyrics, I have to say that doesn't actually work out too well. o_0
I finally finished my alternate lyrics.
Hold to your hopes and dreams, someday they may realize
A beautiful fate awaits; you'll know it when your heart finds
Reach out your hand and hold to mine
Close your eyes; we'll touch the sky
Oh, this magic dream
Is coming true someday
If you can dream
The wish you're making on a star just may come true
The softly-blowing winds will guide my heart right back to you
'Cause if you can dream
Someday all our hopes will come shining on through
Romance will always be so new
And love will light the way
If you can dream
Someday true love will come
Of this we can be certain
One day our eyes will meet
Never alone again
When your hand is finally mine
There's mountain we can't climb
Hold to this dream
It will come true someday
If you can dream
The wish you're making in your heart will soon come true
The stars will light a crystal path directly right back to you
'Cause if you can dream
Someday all our hopes will come shining on through
Romance will always be so new
And love will find a way
If you can dream
If you can dream
It doesn't matter how far we're apart; we'll be together soon
Just as the needle points to North, I'll know the way to you
'Cause if you can dream
Someday all our hopes will come shining on through
Romance will always be so new
And love will have its way
If you can dream
This I dream will be
The sweetest destiny
There's a thrilling world
Waiting there for us
Waiting just for us
If you can dream

Well, it's still a little trite-sounding, but I'd like to think I've managed to strip most of the "Disney Ick!" factor. I'm still not sure about that "just a kiss away" line, but I haven't come up with anything to replace it so far. There was "just a word away" and "just a smile away", but they still seemed too ooie-gooie.
...I think I'll stick with original songs, though. Something where I can tout "Your Prince May Be The Dope You Just Dissed!"

Argh. I
hate
the character rape that goes hand-in-hand with marketing.
And yes, ripping pieces from the other song is also a travesty. Not to mention a blatent sign of People Without Creativity At Work.
Here's a challenge for anyone in the mood - write your own version of this song. Use the same tune, but change the lyrics. See what you can come up with.

What's really tragic about these lyrics is that I'm pretty sure most of us here are capable of writing much better lyrics any day.
What I think is the tragedy is that they took lyrics that were wonderful in the songs they were written for, mishmashed them all together, and created a song overly saturated with 'pretty sounding' phrases and it comes across as trite.
And the fact that the song does nothing for me but still gets me going when you add a pretty video that shows "Look, Disney, just for today, will show us images of what the Princesses REALLY look like and remember they were real characters before they started drawing them terribly off model and slapping them on any pink product they could find." And how sad it is that seeing any of the characters actually resembling themselves is a big deal...

Maybe the song is like jewelry you'd buy at Claire's. See, Claire's jewelry is pretty, but since it's cheap, it's not going to be as nice as "real" jewelry.
Ok, anyway... another one of my strange analogies...

It almost makes me sentimental... then I listen to how silly the lyrics are, and I get a case of the jibblies.
...that sounds about right. I get misty, then laugh at myself thinking "OK, it's not like this is as good as any of these characters' actual songs from movies or anything..."

Yeah...thanks.

I don't think anyone can replace the original voice for Aurora. It seems they got the best of the best for her; hiring an actual opera singer to do her voice. Disney's usually pretty good about picking out voices, but everyone knows that the original voices are the best.

Oh gosh...OK, so now knowing for certain that Aurora is the first "Romance will always be so new..." and that the "Someday my prince will come..." part is Cinderella, may I rant that Aurora's voice in this song sounds NOTHING like Mary Costa (she had a huge classical-style voice and this girl sings in the same Broadway style as Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, etc...and who's brilliant idea was it to give Aurora-the-soprano the lowest parts of the song?) and the Cinderella stand-in sounds more like a bad Snow White impersonation in the beginning of her part and than just sounds nice, but nothing like Ilene Woods? The video is cute, though...and on some of the newer 'original Princess songs' (like on the Christmas album), they have much better Aurora and Cinderella (as well as Snow White) stand-ins. Still confused as to why they have Susan Egan doing all the new Belle stuff, though...
Thanks for sharing the video! I still think it's pretty well done overall.
EDIT: Yeah, my computer wouldn't load the whole thing last night, so I only got to see the first half...um, now that I got to see it all, I'll go better than "pretty well done"...as much as there's a lot of cheesiness and stuff...it's packed enough sentimental value to make me tear up when they start to show the visual montages. I'm feeling a little sappy today...my brother's pet bearded dragon died, and I feel really bad for him so I think my emotions are rocky...

Thanks!
Added it to my favourites. I thought about putting the video in my myspace profile, but I'd feel funny about doing that, since it isn't mine.

I think you can see the video at the official Disney princess website.
And on a semi-related note, has anyone heard this song about Jasmine and Ariel that plays on the Toon Disney channel during commercials? It's something like Disney princess rock party...thing or something. I can't remember the exact name of it, but it's a song about Jasmine and Ariel kickin' ass and rocking out, basically

in think aroura sings her part too there is this part that says somthing about a rose i guess.....
The only line mentioning a rose is "never die the rose," which is sung by Belle. But Aurora is in the choral stuff, with Cinderella, but neither is featured as much as the princesses whose original voices are there.
As far as DD's remark...I agree. It's kind of pretty and sweet and has the nice 'follow your heart' message, but...yeah, they strung as many past Princess song lyrics together as they could..."our song as old as rhyme"...Jasmine saying "we're gonna fly"...wishing on stars (When You Wish...)...the colors of the wind..."Reflections in a diamond sky" is Lea overdrive...someday (my) prince will come...certain as the sun(rise)...the slipper fits...a tale as old as time...never die the rose (an obvious reference to Beast's rose, but wow, I think that line's awkward)...'there's a whole new world'....it sounds like it's simultaneously a love song and a "dream on, little girls, you can be a princess, too!" song...but it doesn't really work very well as either because it goes back and forth and has gratuitous phrases thrown in for kicks. x.x

i like that song, but sometimes it sounds like they are jsut putting nice sounding lyrics together with no real meaning, in a sense, pretty and poetic stuff but a little strange in the song, or maybe i'm just a little nuts!
