I think with a lot of them, they have contracts for X amount of years and they do whatever is in there, but then bigger named people who did it just for one time might just be doing it out of charity the next or for kicks. I'm sure they ask them all back if they are still up to it and still sound like the character.
Plus... alot of the time... it isn't their voices. Unfortunately.

They may have had them record a few extra lines while they were there, just generic stuff they thought they might be able to use for commercials or stuff. I know for other shows they've done that when they're able to get a celebrity for only one ep.

I don't think they get extra money from merchandise sold years later. They're probably paid according to their contract (which should include extra money gleaned through marketing), and that's it. I mean, if you want to go that route, it's the character designers who should be getting royalties, because it's the character's image - not the voice - that is made into merchandise.
(And besides, who would want to be tied to a character for that long anyway?)

*Imagines Benson... "You want... my voice?"*
Really, I'm afraid I'm quite unable to even conjecture, as I have nothing to base this upon. It's quite possible that merchandice is part of the initial contract, and the money they receive for merchandice is included with the money they receive for doing the movie.
