A lot of viziers in the 1001 Nights, weren't there? Especially that one Jafar fellow. Poor guy, kept getting his life threatened by the king. It was pretty crazy.
One evening, an imp and Saleen transform a Persian rug into a genie using an expensive piece of jewelry, some falafel, and some curry.
That's the most interesting potion I've ever seen. Wait a minute... *gets plotbunny* What if Genie used to be a rug, and that's why he and Carpet are so well-aquainted? What if there's some sort of curse on Carpet so that every rug he becomes friends with becomes a genie through one means or another? That would be weird. I bet Genie doesn't even remember being a rug, which probably made Carpet really sad at first, but after ten thousand years he's probably gotten over it, but what happens when his new friend becomes a genie, too? Oy. I may be overthinking this.
One day in a faraway city, a sultan and an imp create a parrot with the assistance of Mozenrath.
So that's where Iago came from...

Oy.
I may be overthinking this.

Hmm. I hadn't thought of that.

Easy. Use them to power his machinery. Gotta get those turbines running somehow, and Iago might not always be enough.

Why would he want to catch squirrels?

Under normal circumstances, I do not believe Jafar would engage in the act of prancing down the city streets in swimtrunks while singing showtunes. Nor do I believe he would be inclined to climb a tree and act like a nut, even to catch squirrels.

There were a lot of good viziers, too, though. Heck, there were a lot of AWESOME viziers.
What on Earth would lead up to Jafar dressing up like that, I wonder?

Of course I actually read the Arabian Nights. I'm separated from my excellent two-volume translation here at school, but I remember stuff. Like how half the royal viziers are evil. Now I'm going to play around with the Aladdin plot generator again. Here's what I got: One day, Jafar dresses up in a fez, Jasmine's wardrobe, and an heirloom earring. Hmm. Scary. I should draw that.

Whoa... someone else who actually reads The Arabian Nights?!
*Hugs Jafaria*
YEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!
I was reading it, but I kinda stopped after awhile. I did read a good chunk of it, though. Enough so that Robin Williams's character is no longer my personal paradigm for a genie. Enough so that I could - believe it or not - turn the genie into a nonmagical sci-fi race that still had most of the bells and whistles (and annoying qualities!) from The Arabian Nights.

I'm pretty much addicted to the Arabian Nights, that's why I said afreets are evil genies. My newest response from the Aladdin Plot Generator:
One day in a faraway land, Jafar has a fit of insanity and happens to create a frilled lizard while searching for Genie.

That cracked me up until I realized that afreets are evil genies so Jafar already IS one [at least in RoJ].
Well, yeah, in mythology, but in the series they're a bit different.

"One night, an afreet and a prince attempt to turn Jafar into an afreet while eating some old baklava." That cracked me up until I realized that afreets are evil genies so Jafar already IS one [at least in RoJ]. Must find other Jafar ones!
