Kings don't retire; they're the king until they die (at least officially; someone else might be doing all the work <img src="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" border="0" /> ). <br /> <br />Maybe what Jasmine's line about becoming queen means is that if she <span style="font-style: italic">didn't</span> marry before Sultan died, instead of becoming the ruler herself the kingdom would pass on to the next person in line, and Jasmine wouldn't become queen? Which would also explain why Sultan wanted her to be married before she died so she'd be "taken care of"; if she wasn't queen she'd be at the mercy of whoever became the sultan instead, and they might not want to take care of Jasmine... <br /> <br />Anyway, as for Sultan's age: my personal guess would be that he's in his 60s. On the negative side he's overweight, he's living in a time when life expectancies were pretty short, and he may have other medical problems. On the plus side though he's got access to the best doctors in Agrabah at a time when Arab doctors were the best in the world, and his son-in-law has a genie who may be able to cure certain health problems magically.
