Her lips and eyes just seem a bit too grey.
They
are
gray - her lips are at a hexidecimal value of #444444.
Any chance you're trying to work with a limited palette, Hourglass?
...Not on purpose. I'll work on that
::sigh:: I'll go back and try again...
::sulks::
BUT THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENTS!!!
I'm glad you enjoy it!

I like the colors you used in her eyes and lips the first time, but the shading job on this one is just beautiful! The first one looked darned good for a first try, but this is much better...I like the softer colors, too. Her lips and eyes just seem a bit too grey.
Very pretty work!

Much better.
Why're her lips gray, though?

Wow. ::jealous:: a first attempt? It's really good! ::huggles bird::
Aw.. thank you!!! I tried so hard on the bird to make it seem all textured and ruffly... but my attention span died on me, and I gave up.

Personally, I discovered that if I made the black-and-white art into a layer that let colors show through the white areas in PSP, I could get it colored in pretty nicely by placing colors on below layers. I'm not sure exactly how you'd go about that in Painter, but I'd bet there's a way to do it.

The picture itself is gorgeous, but the actual colors are a little off -- for example, the black lips. Still, as first attempts go... Dang, woman! You rock!
Thanks Janette, I appreciate that alot! Even though it's only simple tracing of lineart and then a scan, fill in the colors... and voila! But, you're right, when I was saving it, something went wrong with the coloring of the eyes and lips. I JUST re-did it, and should upload it here soon.

I used to have a pen, but it died on me... so, being rather stuck with a mouse, I kinda had to teach myself to use it.

That's your FIRST attempt? It looks a lot better than what some people do after practising a lot.
Thank you, but it seriously isn't. It's just a bit of line art that I TRACED and then filled in with... I think I used pens/charcoals and a helluva lot of the filler button.
It was just trying to match the shading with the rest of the tones... blah blah blah... she still looks 2-D which is what I'm trying to work out of.
But thank you, it's nice to know that I actually have some sort of talent. Helps me keep going... make other pictures.

Oh gosh, the digital drawing pads? With the digital pen that transfers what you draw to the screen? Those are a pain in the neck to work with
In all actuality, I can't use the mouse to save my life, so the digital pen saved my life. I love it because I've always been able to draw while looking at something else, just trace what I am looking at... and it sorta happens.
Eh, to each his own I guess. However, I am still new with the whoe program, and I see what these other people do on
www.deviantart.com,
and it makes me drool AND wonder how they got so good with just a computer program.
::sigh:: I'm 17 now, maybe I'll be able to actually make good pictures by the time I'm what... 40...?
