It's not just Disney, either. Sidekicky, comic-relief characters do this a lot in other medias, such as the Muppets.

Apparently, Disney characters are aware that they're Disney characters.
Goofy: Man or woman?

The heroes never know they're being filemed, but the side-kicks seem like they know.
I know there have been more examples but I can't think of anymore right now,.
Does anyone else notice they use the POTC music for a lot of their movie trailers?
