I haven't read or seen any of the Potter books or movies yet, HOWEVER, I took my first Disneyworld Vacay last month and spent one day at Universal's Islands of Adventure, too... Even though I don't know anything about the book(s), the ride through the Potter castle was absolutely amazing. Didn't beat meeting Al and Jaz, though... LOL!

That's true, all the cool kids are in Gryffindor XD, and he'd probably wanna be with his friends Laughing And you basically can choose where you want to be sorted even if the Sorting Hat thinks you'd go better someplace, so I can imagine him telling it he wanted to go somewhere else.

XD Why do I have the feeling he'd constantly break dress code?

I just had a random thought. Even if Genie could get into Ravenclaw (he's witty + he matches the house colors Laughing) I don't think he would want to. I can imagine him wanting to be where all the fun and action is happening. An image of him with a goofy goof hat, a surfboard and a hawaiin shirt popped up in my head Laughing

I think Aladdin's pretty ambitious, too! Not that many people tell their monkey "One day we're gonna live in a palace!" I mean, I don't even remember the last time I told my monkey that Laughing

There's also the whole "thirst to prove yourself" that almost got Harry put into Slytherin. "If only they'd look closer, they'd find out there's so much more to me!"

Also, Slytherins will do anything to get to their goal (I think the sorting hat said that during it's long poem). Their ruthlessness sets them apart from the other houses. Aladdin isn't ruthless, but he almost was. He was willing to lie and orchestrated this whole parade, literally Laughing Aladdin is a Gryffindor by the end of the movie, though, and a Gryffindor at heart. And let's not forget

"I can't be your Vizier."
"The boy's talking crazy talk! What more do you want??"
"The world."
"...........Look, personally, I'm with you kid, but let's take it one step at a time Neutral"

Laughing

Aladdin as a character even outside the Disney version is also known for his cleverness. It's not really the Ravenclaw kind of cleverness, though. I'd say it could be called cunning, although the Disney version took away a lot of the jerky kind of cleverness he had in the original stories Laughing

Well in the beginning, didn't he want to live in a palace and have no problems at all? That's a bit of an ambition. I don't think that he really could work for it though, since Agrabah strikes me as the kind of place where you're born into a social class and there's really no way out of it, you did what your parents did, your kids did what you did ( hence why he was very lucky ). If given the chance though, I do think he'd try to work for it--I just don't think he's as lazy as the Aladdin in the original story Laughing I still wouldn't sort him into Slytherin after the movie, since after he meets Jasmine his 'ambition' changes XD. Taking into account the rest of the movie/series he'd definitely be a Gryffindor. I honestly think he'd be one of those kids muttering, "Not Slytherin" after he sees Jafar's there Laughing But another thing that I was reminded of was 'Raiders of the Lost Shark'. By the end of the episode it was clear that he didn't want money the most but I think he really had a Cassim moment--but I think it was just out of guilt, since he'll basically get handed everything since he's marrying the Princess, and he really doesn't want that. And all those times in the series when he didn't have enough money to buy her gifts--he really wanted to make his own money.

What do you think Cassim would end up being?

Haroud, yeah, I'd say he's a Ravenclaw since between him and Abis Mal he's the smartest guy there.

Exactly, that's definitely where I think most of that hate comes from.

I'm going to have to argue against Aladdin in Slytherin, because their main trait is ambition, and Aladdin is completely unambitious. A Slytherin would have wanted to be Sultan, and would never have turned down the Grand Vizier job. He obviously doesn't like to work hard Laughing , and doesn't seem very interested in learning beyond practical things that he will definitely use, so even if he wasn't brave he would be in Griffindor by default. Laughing

Rasoul... I would say Hufflepuff, but I keep going back and forth between that and Griffindor. If it was left completely up to the hat, then Hufflepuff, but he might choose Griffindor for himself.

Abis Mal is definitely a Slytherin. After Jafar he's the most ambitious character, IMO. No one said they had to be realistic ambitions. Laughing Amin, too, since he has the ambition to want to be the greatest thief.

Farouk: that's a tough one. We know a lot about his personality but nothing really fits the house traits. He's very greedy, he takes the law into his own (or other people's Wink ) hands, he's always complaining to the Sultan, he's angry all the time... Let's just say I could sort him into a political movement a lot easier than into a Hogwarts house. Laughing

Haroud: he's a coward and lazy, so not Griffindor or Hufflepuff. Laughing I don't know if you could call him ambitious, because he doesn't want the power, he just wants to be the servant of the person with power. But he's smart, so Ravenclaw, maybe?

My thoughts exactly. Smile I think before Aladdin came along, Rasoul *was* considered Agrabah's greatest hero. Think about how in the early episodes how Sultan used to call on Rasoul first when Agrabah was in trouble rather than Aladdin, and how that changed over time. No wonder he hated Aladdin more as the series progressed, rather than less. If it was just about him being an ex-thief he would have slowly gotten over it.

Oh, I forgot about Saluk promising Razoul he'd be Agrabah's greatest hero! I have to watch the movie again. It's been a while. Yeah, you should totally write that fanfic Laughing Voldemort can meet Jafar and Hades in the underworld and then Hercules, Aladdin and Harry can....oh, wait, never mind Laughing

Ooh that's true. I was thinking more along the lines of when Sal'uk was stroking his ego when he offered to tell him where the Forty Thieves' hideout was, and how finding them would make him 'Agrabah's greatest hero'. I dunno, I guess I always thought one of the reasons he hates Al so much is that he ( thinks that he Laughing ) works so hard in order to ensure Agrabah's security, and of course Aladdin gets all the credit each time. But he does seem pretty satisfied with where he is now, otherwise he would have quit, right? XD Yeah, I think when it comes down to it it's Jasmine's bravery that would put her in Gryffindor instead. Of course! All the cool kids are in Gryffindor! ( Though Luna Lovegood wasn't too bad, just eccentric Laughing. She and Sultan might get along well! )

XD Yeah, that works.

Hmm..defintely Iago to save his own skin XD And Abis Mal ( because he's just a flunkie, come on Laughing Though he'd be the clumsiest Death Eater ever ) and Haroud ( because it'd be the smart thing to do XD ). Yeah I couldn't see Jafar or the others being buddy-buddy with him unless they were to unite temporarily against a common enemy. Jafar and Voldemort vs. Aladdin and Harry Laughing That would be so hilarious if he was in the show XD Now I wanna write something Laughing

I put Rasoul in Gryffindor because he seems to be the bravest guard in the series. I don't know about Slytherin since he doesn't seem to want to be the ruler of the entire kingdom like all the other baddies, or even want a promotion Laughing I put Jasmine is Gryffindor because she was pretty brave/had nerve to climb over the wall to run away from the palace, and she also flew to a roof with a stick Laughing I think she'd have more fun in Gryffindor than Ravenclaw, too.

I can't figure out where to sort Farouk, but maybe he could sell stuff in the Leaky Cauldron Laughing

Now here's an interesting question. Which character do you think would be most likely to follow Voldemort? I can't think of anyone who would except Iago, Abu (if he never met Aladdin), Abis Mal and Haroud (the tall guy who follows Abis Mal around). < That list just goes to show you only cowards follow Voldy Laughing All the other villains seem unlikely to want to share the spotlight with/be subservient to a more powerful villain. But it's pretty funny to think of Voldemort as a cartoon in the Aladdin universe. He wouldn't get to kill anybody Laughing Aladdin would dodge all his Avada Kedavras.

XD That's true. I guess that was her only real goal too, just to get Aladdin to like her, whereas everyone else we'd put in Slytherin had bigger plans and ambitions ( Jafar wants to take over the world, Iago wants money, a palace, and a vibrating chair XD ).

Yeah I don't really think Mirage has any ambitions other than to make everyone else's life a living hell Laughing And she does work hard to do that so I guess she'd be a Hufflepuff XD--or a Ravenclaw since she's fairly intelligent. Phasir would definitely work for Ravenclaw--do you think Jasmine could be a Ravenclaw too? Because it seems to me that a lot in the series and KoT she was the voice of reason Laughing Then again so was Hermione I guess XD.

Farouk? Hmm...maybe Hufflepuff. It's funny because it means 'discerning truth from falsehood' in Arabic. He seems to be a bit legalistic at least since he was about to cut off Jasmine's hand for stealing...ah, well Hufflepuff takes all the rejects XD

What about Razoul? I was thinking he'd be a Hufflepuff...or maybe even a Slytherin because of how he acted in KoT. I think he's fairly ambitious.

It's hard for me to imagine Sadira in Slytherin, mixed in with all the other baddies. She'd be so lost Laughing Switching places with Jasmine was really cunning and ruthless, but that's like the single cool plan she's ever had Laughing I don't think she's cunning or ruthless enough overall for Slytherin. I only thought of Gryffindor for her because she turned Al into a chivalrous knight in that one episode. Laughing

What about Mirage. She cunning, but would you say she's ambitious? She kinda has no life and her main goal is to follow people around and make them miserable. She really has no end goal. Maybe she'd get into Hufflepuff since they'll take anyone. Laughing Phasir (the guy in love with Mirage) would be in Ravenclaw. Actually, Mirage would be Ravenclaw, too. Even if she's not studious per se, I can imagine her being able to answer the password questions to get into the dorms Laughing "Which came first, the Phonenix or the flame?"

What do you think Farouk the fruit merchant would get sorted into? Laughing I don't remember if there's any specific episodes where he reveals something more about his personality.

That reminds me I have to watch the second act of the sequel! I just found out like last week that the sequel existed XD. I love it so much--and there are so many references to Aladdin in that thing Laughing "HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO KILL YOU BOY?!" and I love how in the second one, Goyle's like, "WHO DISTURBS MY SLUMBER?" Goyle rules Laughing

I could see Sadira in Gryffindor or Hufflepuff too, but at the beginning do you think maybe she'd be a Slytherin? She kinda does strike me as ambitious to a degree ( she was very tenacious in trying to get Al to fall in love with her Razz ) and I do think that like Al she wanted to be more than a street rat, but I think by the end of her story arc she'd be Gryffindor or Hufflepuff.

XD Mechanicles would totally be in Slytherin. Gah, this makes me wanna write a crossover fic Laughing

I love A Very Potter Musical! Laughing Have you watched A Very Potter Sequel? I didn't even realize they had done a sequel until yesterday!

On second thought, I wouldn't put Mechanicles in Ravenclaw. He's a genius, but I don't think he values intelligence as much as he values his crazy plans. He's a Slytherin because he's definitely ambitious if he thinks he can rid the whole world of germs! Laughing

Sadira has the daring and nerve to be in Gryffindor, plus she seems to appreciate chivalry. But she can also be Hufflepuff because she always works hard, never gives up and is verrrry patient! Laughing

Don't forget Hufflepuffs are also great finders! Laughing

I agree about Aladdin being in Slytherin at the beginning of the movie, but yeah I think he's definitely a Gryffindor. I'm just imagining the sorting hat having that same conversation he had with Harry with Al XD. I'd put Sultan in Ravenclaw ( since he's a genius with those toys XD ) or Hufflepuff, but you know now that I think about it he could be a Gryffindor too because of "A Sultan Worth His Salt" when he rescues Jasmine ( i.e. Neville Longbottom-ish kinda XD ).

Seriously though, when I think of Tom Riddle/Voldy I immediately think of Jafar and how good of a Slytherin he'd be Laughing

PostPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 12:47 pm    Post subject: Is anybody else a Harry Potter fan? (on topic)

I've had Harry Potter on the brain all week, and it led to me wondering what Hogwarts house the Aladdin characters would be sorted in. The whole "all Slytherins are evil, all Gryffindors are good and no cool people are in Hufflepuff," thing is not really true, as we find out later on in the series. I felt a moment of betrayal when I thought to myself that Aladdin would be sorted into Slytherin because he's cunning, ambitious and has a thirst to prove himself. Laughing Well, in the first movie, it's certainly true but by the end of the first film + the series and sequels he really does prove himself to be brave enough for Gryffindor Very Happy

So here are the house descriptions:

Quote:
Gryffindor students are expected to have bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry.

Hufflepuff students are expected to value hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play.

Ravenclaw values intelligence, knowledge, and wit (but the sterotypical student is super smart. you have to answer questions like "2 trains left the same station at 2 o clock the speed of blah blah blah" just to get into the dorm rooms Laughing

Slytherin house values ambition, cunning and resourcefulness (it's just unfortunate a lot of villains also have this trait
Laughing )

So keeping those traits in mind, I tried to compile a non-biased list of what I would sort the Aladdin characters into.

Gryffindor: Carpet, Rasoul, Aladdin, and definitely Jasmine

Hufflepuff: Everyone but Iago Laughing

Ravenclaw: Sultan (he's kind of like Luna Lovegood), Mechanicles, Genie

Slytherin: Jafar, Iago, Abu, Aladdin, Mozenrath.

I would also consider Sultan in Hufflepuff because he seems to value fairness, hard work and loyalty + he's got a lot of patience to put up with Jasmine Laughing I'd also consider Rajah for Hufflepuff for his loyalty. And he seems to be fair because he almost attacked Aladdin for trespassing but decided to give him a chance when he explained himself. His attack on Prince Achmed also seems fair Laughing
