There's a major difference between making a city, like Agrabah (not to mention Getzistan and Quarkistan) and centering their events in that area, and then making a city and twisting history around (without parody) to fit the story.
Cleopatra and Caesar were figures that Genie conjured. I mean, think about it; Moses was there, too, when he was doing that whole thing.
Also, Mechanikles is greek. Hence his title "Greatest of the Great Greek Geniuses". Yes, Rome and Greece existed at that point in time. However, the empire was not yet what it became later.
I'm sticking with what I said about the name. There's no reason why there would be a city in Egypt with an Indian name.
Also, I'm not denying this is something you made up. However, I'm doing what most serious writers and critics do; I'm analyzing what I've seen so far and constructively criticizing.
Was there a reason for quoting your post three times or was that a message board error? |

It depends on your motive as a critic and the constructive criticism that you implore out.
Sometimes constructive criticism can be discouraging. That's why I so feel embarassed posting any of the pictures or stories here. I'm afraid that someone is going to run me out and make writing not so fun for me anymore. Does it have to be 100 % accurate based on history? Disney didn't really do their research on the historical events and timing in the original movie in Aladdin. That's why there's alot of confusion on what time period it actually is and when where what happened that goes in between.
So, why does mine have to be based upon accuracy?
Sorry, I just had to say that. Rajan ancestry was something that was made up last minute in this thread this afternoon. That whole entirety was made up because someone asked. Gosh?! do you really have to bust me for making up things as I go? You go figure out where he got the eyes from. From now on my answer is that the Prince Rajan won the genetic lottery. Somewhere down his family line has blue eyes. This story, "Come What May" was one of my first fics. Did you actually took the time to read my story ? In my story, I didn't tell where Maharajah is at or how Rajan came to be. He was a prince who was arranged to be married to Jasmine.
Knowing that she's married to Aladdin. His father and Rajan came to Agrabah to claim what's rightfully theirs.
From now, I will have depth in character development in my story.
In other words, NO I AM NOT CHANGING THE NAME OF THE CITY IN MY STORY. because the reason why I put that city name ties in why Jasmine got Rajah and name her tiger Rajah. |

To make writers think more about what they're doing and thereby improve.

Concrit is always discouraging at first. If you're not thick-skinned enough to take it, then you shouldn't be posting your work anywhere that is open forum. That's an important thing to learn about publishing in the real world; not everyone is going to like it and first drafts are never going to be like the final product.

Aladdin is never set in a historical place because Disney didn't want to get razzed for messing with events in history. That's why they purposefully leave stuff like that out.
So, why does mine have to be based upon accuracy?
Because there will always be that one critic who wants to see if you, as a passionate writer, will go the extra distance and do the research to make your story that much more vivid and in-depth. It makes you look better and makes them go "ooh" with the work you put in.

Truthfully? No. I've been asking questions here, and your inability to take concrit and just discuss plotting, even stuff you haven't even done, tells me that your work might not be the seasoned type I'm usually up to reading. |

Thank you. Please take the time to read them . I really do need the improvement to write. You're right, I need to be thick skinned on publishing things out. Fear gets the best out of everybody. Here in the Library of Agrabah, i'm testing my waters. You got me thinking on where should I look at and to be careful. what do you mean by seasonal ? I do take constructive criticism. It's just you're asking me to change a city that ties with one of the events in the story. If i change it then I have to change everything else. I don't know what seasonal stuff are you talking about. i write here in the Library of Agrabah and only here. Writing things about Aladdin is what I love to do. Writing is what I want to learn and develop on. So thank you for pointing things out for me. I take it into consideration and research more. For your part, i think you should look at the whole picture before you can add your critique. You can't go say something without seeing the whole picture. It's like taking a gum wrapper and assuming it belongs to a chocolate bar.
that was my mistake for putting Rajan ancestry and saying that his city is on a rich port side that was from Egypt. That put the whole debate in the first place.Honestly my story, which you haven't read . never said, where the city is located or where rajan came from. |

I'm available as in JASMINE'S NOT!
Mariposa, although Aladdin definitely leaves a lot of room for creative liberty, a general rule about writing is that it has to be in some way consistant enough with reality so as to be believable. True enough, "Maharaja" is an Indian word, which would put a lot of people in mind of India in terms of his origin. Thus, trying to set him in a place that would more logically be the location of another country/culture might be a little confusing for a reader.
Or... you can ask your readers to believe the impossible, not the improbable. (People have no trouble watching characters babble about chronitons and dilithium crystals, but an unnatural lucky streak in a character will eventually get 'em.)
Rajan's blue eyes could very well happen with mixed heritage. Mili Avital, the actress who played Sha'uri in Stargate and Sheherizade in Hallmark's 1001 Nights has blue eyes. So... blue eyes ho, I say! _________________

What Syera said above is what I was trying to point out. Thank you for taking this graciously. |

And let's not forget the "Afghan Girl" from that cover of "National Geographic", who had green eyes. _________________

Her eyes tend to change colors. They're blue a lot, but I'm pretty sure there's a sequence in Strike up the Sand where her eyes are green. _________________ "This cow's been covered with flour!" |

Still, they're mostly blue, so that's probably the color they were intended to be. _________________
