Mine would be The Hunchback of Notre Dame, or maybe The Great Mouse Detective. Or Treasure Planet. I must be the only person in the world who didn't like TLM. |
I LOVE the Great Mouse Detective, but I don't even know if there's a fandom. It would consist of me and you |

At first, I had refused to watch the Disney Hercules, because I knew that they changed up the myths. But once I started viewing the Greek myths as stories rather than possible facts, I didn't have a problem with the Disney movie.
My husband saw some of it, though, and thought it was weird. See, he's into the live action Hercules TV series, plus he read the books when he was younger, so I can understand how he might view Disney's Hercules.

See, I knew the real thing (my dad is a Greek mythology nut) and it still didn't bother me. The older I got, that's the more I learned none of these stories are how they are supposed to be. It took me years to learn Oliver and Company was Oliver Twist

I knew it too; I wasn't bothered, just highly amused. "HOW will they clean up HERCULES?" |

WTF? There's got to be thousands of people writing fanfiction. The chances of finding a magic lamp in my back yard might be better. I hate to sound cynical, but people shouldn't write fanfiction in the hopes of having it become sequals.
Besides, I know one writer of a TV series I like who refuses to read fanfiction. I never asked her why, but as a writer, I would guess it's because she doesn't like to see the characters she helped to create given personalities and traits that were never intended.

It's understandable if it's a little kid who doesn't understand what fanfiction really is, but not someone who's been online for awhile.
As with why the original creators don't read fanfics, I'm pretty sure most of the time it's because they're afraid they could be accused of stealing ideas if they ever write anything similar. At least I know that's the case with people who work for Disney, as well as my favorite author Terry Pratchett. _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! I didn't know it until a commercial that said that it was the story of "Oliver" with a Disney "twist."

I heard that before, too. But I didn't think it was an issue with fanfiction. I know it's why I don't read most fanfiction, though.

Hey, it's just like in The Little Mermaid. My oldest sister told me the story, to refresh my memory, and I was all expecting Ariel to die.
Ah, well. Many of those tales were passed down through word of mouth before they were written down anyway. I guess it's a matter of picking which version you like best.

Maybe Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, or Lady and the Tramp. _________________ "I too am a member of your species, Captain, or I was. Perhaps I am not anymore. Perhaps you are right in thinking of me as an alien. I know I am different from you. You see-I do not kill." |

Wow! Your favorite author is Terry Pratchett too? His books are so funny! |
