|
|
Ariel keeps getting slammed by haters for indecent exposure. What's the big deal? She's a mermaid. Some depictions of mermaids in other works of art and literature have mermaids wearing nothing at all, with just their long hair covering them. Yes, Ariel is very skinny but she's still a good person. What should it matter what she looks like? And she's probably that skinny from living on a diet of seaweed...we all know she wouldn't eat Flounder
Her father didn't even wear a shirt throughout the whole movie and nobody has anything to say about that. Does his naked buffness make boys feel insecure about themselves?
Ariel is wearing seashells when she's a mermaid (just like all the other mermaids) but when she's a human she's wearing very conservative clothing. So what's the problem? Perhaps in her society, exposed fins isn't a problem. But she follows all the rules in the human world. She's polite enough and open minded enough to wear their clothing.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I have a question.
Which do you like better? Ursula's wedding dress or Ariel's wedding dress?
I just noticed that Ursula's wedding dress looks more like it would fit in the 21st century. Ariel's dress is very old fashioned. |

I also have a theory on Ariel's quick marriage. I know 16 was the marrying age for the time TLM is set in, and Ariel's dad approved, but they both fell in love so quickly. But now that I think about it...
Ariel's father makes her human and gives her a great dress. You see her running to Eric in one shot, he twirls her, and suddenly she's in her wedding dress.
We all know they didn't get married 5 seconds later
And people just assume they were married the very next day. Some people give it a week.
But considering how long it took Aladdin and Jasmine to get married, maybe Ariel and Eric waited a while too.
Unless you get married in a drive-thru, it takes a long time to plan out a marriage. Considering that they're both royalty and Ariel is daddy's little girl they probably wanted a big wedding like the one in the end.
It takes a ridiculously long time and a great amount of energy to plan a wedding. Even with all the world's riches and a large staff to help you out, you couldn't plan a marriage in a week.
There's the location: A marriage under the sea or on land??
There's the invitations: and it must take a while to get two kingdoms of different species to find an appropriate time to gather. Without email and cars, other royalty and family members from far away kindgoms would have a hard time RSVPing
The service: and Eric's service doesn't look very reliable. Grimsby didn't know what to get the poor boy for his birthday, and the chef is preoccupied in chasing crabs like a madman)
The dress: Ariel has a big, traditional wedding dress. That must've taken a long time to make.
^ All of these things are just a few minor things to worry about when planning a wedding. There's a lot more involved in it. Sometimes it takes years.
Yes, it's just a fantasy movie and perhaps I'm looking too much into it. But it's impossible to get married 5 seconds later. |

Honestly, the amount of criticism Ariel and Jasmine gets is ridiculous. I mean really, they expect the girl to be swimming around in a t-shirt or something. YOU try swimming with all those clothes on and tell me how it works out. They can only use what they have down there and if it's shells, then it's going to be shells. If she swam around with a shirt, everyone would have been all "omgz, how did she get that?!1 not real!!1"
I don't see too many 'large' or 'plump' mermaids running around Atlantica either. At the rate they move and I guess based on what they eat, that would dictate how big they get. Her stomach should be *ripped* with all the movement she does. She's just 16 and the movie is called the Little Mermaid. I know that's not the exact meaning of that, but she's the 'little mermaid' for more than one reason.
And would they prefer what most mermaids in the original stories wore? Try NOTHING. Much like the mermaids in Peter Pan, they had NO tops. You're lucky to even get their hair long enough to cover their chests.
People need to lighten the hell up.
Ariel's sleeves and puffs on her dress so screams 90s
And I don't think they took that long to get married, although yes--it wasn't five seconds later . Melody was born soon after and assuming nothing happened on land that we weren't shown , it couldn't have been that far off I think. Maybe a week, but I can't imagine months. |

So true. Actually they'd probably say "Disney encourages teens to do wet t-shirt contests!"

I haven't thought of that. I'll be using that in all my rebuttals from now on. Besides, all that under water pressure must help.

Yes! But I'm a 90s baby and I never liked that dress.

But, come on! I doubt Ariel knows anything about human reproduction They probably have babies the way fish do. (ever watched futurama?) At most, I'd give them 2 years. At least, I'd give them 1 year to get married.

Excuse me whilst I blow one thing out of the water (pun intended)...
If it takes a week or more to plan a wedding, then how did they get everything set up for Ursula's marriage to Eric so fast? _________________

...... ::thinks:: Darn you!
Well, Eric and Ursula's almost-wedding happened so quickly because
That skank Ursula had him under a spell and she could've had him done anything in less than a week.
If Eric had his senses about him he would've said, "Marry you today? But who the heck are you??"
Also, they're almost-wedding didnt seem as elaborate as the wedding in the end. |

I'm sure someone already thought of it

Fat fish don't move very fast. Did you see Flounder? He had to work it . And between bouyancy and the fact that her tail isn't sideways, but instead up and down, that might have something to do with it too. I'm not entirely sure how fish work, but I still see nothing wrong with her size.

Only the sleeves drive me nuts and that's because my mom would try to shove me in puffy sleeved shirts and dresses like that and I would go change

I'm sure he taught her *real* fast . The time period *almost* lines up with Melody if you take 1989 from 2000 when TLM II comes out. She was turning 12 in that movie. I think Ariel and Eric have some explaning to do |

Stop ruining Ariel's innocence for me!
That must've been hell for Ariel when she had to learn about human labor pains.
Also, the movie was from 1989 but it didn't take place at that time so nyah
I once read this fanfic about Ariel and Eric's honeymoon. I don't know how the hell I came across that, all I wanted was some LM info and pics but instead I came across this weird story about how Ariel thought Eric was trying to kill her during their honeymoon. It was more funny than perverted. "Her father was right! He didn't love her. He was trying to kill her!"
"So many clams had to die to make the buttons on this wedding dress! And the maid wouldn't let me wear my seashells!"
In the story, Eric didn't know that she thought he was trying to murder her. I'd post a link but I'm sure there's a rule against that sort of thing |

He'd get his head bit off for not mentioning the labor part

I know that, that's why I said time period so nyah back at you . All you need to know is that there's at least 11 years between TLM 1 and TLM II, although TLMII is claiming there's 12

Maybe that's the reason why she's so protective of Melody. After the hell she must've gone through carrying her for 9 months (and Ariel's so lightweight underwater) and then the labor pains she never saw coming, she's not about to put her in danger just so she could play in the water
Although I thought the sequel could've been way better, I did enjoy seeing Ariel finally get a taste of the hell she put her father through The poor guy had 6 daughters
Did anyone ever watch TLM series? I remember an episode when she had to take care of twins after thinking they were so cute and that it would be easy. And another one when her dad became a kid again. He was such a brat! He was one bad kid! |

Y'know, originally they were going to make Melody 16, so I hear, but decided that it would make Ariel too old. _________________

I might've seen the twin one. I've seen the one with her father as a kid a couple of times. At the beginning, I think Ariel complained that he was too old, and gave him that spell (I forget exactly what it was) that made him younger. It was a plot by some evil being he sealed in a cave.

Use your head, people. He takes her to his castle, after finding her on the beach, wearing those 'clothes', and then she's taking the seagull's advice(I wouldn't be surprised if that bird peeked in throught windows more than once), and add to that the fact that she wants him to kiss her so desperately, and she has no voice, and can't scream, and you're still doubting it! _________________ "I too am a member of your species, Captain, or I was.
