Ok so who do you really think did a great job with the character he/she did the voice for? mine are
scott weinger - aladdin
jodi benson - ariel
patt carol - ursula
gilbert - iago
samuel w. - sebastian
i think linda larkin is one of the worst "sorry guys" you don't hear jasmine's voice in the sequals and the series like she did in the first movie..which is a shame i sometimes feel she sounds like a kid while in da first movie she sounded way grown up. _________________ Aladdin ROCKS!!! www.AladdinZone.cjb.net |

I don't think Linda did a bad job! The only time that has made me go "ok, where did Jasmine go?" is in the beginning of ROJ, but it goes back to normal.
Now what she did to her voice in Kingdom Hearts II recently, I have NO CLUE . It was suuuuuuper high. But then again, a lot of females like Paige O'hara, Susan Egan and Ming-na didn't quite sound like their characters, either. |

There's kind of a funny story about that in the "Aladdin: The Making of an Animated Film" book. Apparantly the directors really, really wanted Linda to play Jasmine but Jeffrey Katzenburg wasn't so sure; he wanted someone with a lower voice. So in the later auditions when she was called back Ron and John kept coaching her to make her voice lower and lower and lower until finally Katzenburg liked it. I guess in the series when they didn't have to deal with him anymore she went back to using her normal voice. _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! Any Pixar movie where a crew member voices a character. Hilarious. Those guys are GOOD. _________________

Jodi Benson as Ariel...is the top of a list far too long for me to go through. There's not one that I dislike or feel so distracted that I lose the ability to see the CHARACTER, not the VA.

Well, I don't feel like repeating what's already been said in this thread, so I'll bring up something that hasn't yet.
I really think nobody does Genie like Robin Williams. To me, the Genie is Robbin Williams, and Robbin Williams is the Genie. That Homer Simpson guy (What's his name again?) didn't do a terrible job, but he isn't truly Genie. As for other Disney voices, I generally like the ones who originally did the voices. Characters just never are the same with new voices. I remember one episode of Bonkers with the Mad Hatter and the March Hare. It was during the time I used to watch Alice in Wonderland a lot, so when they spoke in the Bonkers cartoon, I'm all, "That's not them! Their voices are way off!"

I rarely watch Disney movies with the original soundtrack, so my favourites will be picked from a very limited selection. In fact, the only English Disney voice I remember adoring is Kuzco's. That guy was perfect for the role. Gilbert's Iago is also brilliant, but my love for the Finnish one keeps me from loving him with no strings attached.
Now, when it comes to foreign voices, I absolutely LOVE the Brazilian Jasmine. She has the best voice for the role, no doubts about it. I was shocked when I first heard her because she was just so good.
My favourite voice actor of all times is Antti Pääkkönen. He has done tons of Disney roles, including (but not limited to) Abis Mal, Mechanikles, Hakim, the Peddler, Prince Achmed (I think), Timon, Banzai, Clopin, Doppler, Woody, Mickey Mouse, Tweedle Dee and so on. His voice makes me go weak in the knees.
EDIT: Okay, now I'm majorly pissed off. Not because of anything in this thread, but it's connected to Disney voices so I'll say it here.
Some cast lists I've seen say Pääkkönen voiced Sebastian in TLM, but I always thought it was a mistake because he most definitely did not do so in the VHS my friend showed me. However, just a few minutes ago I found a clip in which he does voice him, which means they at some point they re-dubbed TLM. He's also been listed as the voice of the Mad Hatter from Alice in the Wonderland, even though he doesn't do that in the VHS I have. They probably re-dubbed that, too, which sucks because the first dub was perfect.
Have they ever rape... I mean, re-dubbed any of the English versions? _________________ "Now nothing will stand in the way of DOING THE DISHES!" |

You know, it's funny--the older I get that's the more I kinda forget he was Genie. He's distanced himself so much as Genie/the role of Genie and I've heard Dan sooooo much more than Robin, that the only time I really remember is when I watch the original or KOT. I can watch everything without a problem, but the line of "the original Genie" is blurred for me now.

Not that I am aware of. Hell would be raised
I heard of something similar happening to the German version of TLM, too. What is it with the re-dubbings of movies? |

1: Robin Williams as Genie. Dan Castellaneta was okay, but overall his lines were just too corny.
2: John Rhys-Davies as Cassim.
3: Robby Benson as Beast. (Kind of a no-brainer, I s'pose.) Especially since, in his early days, he talked like a complete nerd. (I saw a clip of his audition for Luke Skywalker. It was painful.)
4: Jerry Orbach as Lumiere/Saluk. Either role was AWESOME; that man has the most incredible voice.
5: Ming-Na Wen as Mulan. Her voice was so different from the traditional Disney female; I actually found that inspiring.
Honorary Mention: Frank Welker as ANYBODY. Did you know they even get him to make horsey sounds?
Honorary Mention: Gilbert Gottfried as Iago. "How in the he-er, RAAWT!"
Honorary Mention: Meriweather from Sleeping Beauty.
(I haven't seen TLM in years, so I'm not really qualified to comment on them.) _________________ *

Hmm, both of the Finnish people I talk to on a regular basis have now said that; maybe you're on to something? _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! After all... you do bear the name of a flower." -- Arbutus |

I think Frank Welker gets my vote. I can't think of a movie he didn't do something for . And Jim Cummings, too. That dude is Winnie the Pooh AND Tigger. |

I love the voice of the actress who did Merriweather! Her voice was very versatile - from the fusty Merriweather to the demure Lady.
And yes, Frank Welker is awesome. I still have a hard time imagining that he was Fred in Scooby Doo, though.
But... I still get a kick out of the Pixar crew. Brad Bird as Edna Mode was hilarious. _________________
