Hey there everyone!
A really great and loyal fan of my work, sent me a link to show me someone at LoA, has copied elements of my first fanfic and put it in their story. It is WAY too similar to be a coicidence!
Mine is titled "Aladdin and the Amulet of Time" and theirs is "Amulet of Time adventure"
here is the link to mine, which was published first, and is actually much longer and has more detail:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2658020/1/
Oh and, its my first fanfic, so its not as nearly good as my current one, but anyway!
this is the link to theirs, which has lamely copied elements of ym story and readapted it very poorly.
http://www.aladdincentral.org/library/viewstory.php?sid=847
Trust me, my readers can verify! I hate it when people can't come up with their own ideas, it really irritates me. No reasons to explain why, I think its really clear. |

I'm not surprised, honestly.
That person believes stealing all the dialogue and plot from the original film, adding "and Cassim" to every reference to Aladdin, and adding some random woman to all sequences with Jasmine constitues an alternate-universe story.
(When someone has Cassimfan as a name, I have to read the stuff. ) _________________ "This cow's been covered with flour!" |

Gah, I've had that happen to me before and it sucks. Although it really shouldn't surprise me that this person is doing that since she's really cranking them out and is already plagiarizing quite a lot of the movie dialogue.
How similar is it other than the name? I'm about to hit the sack because I have an interview tomorrow so I don't have time to read them both. Just want to see what the similarities are before I go delete it.
Edit: For now I've just revoked her validation for now so she doesn't sneak anything else past me. _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! After all... you do bear the name of a flower." -- Arbutus |

welll....
seeing as she's condensed my 20 chap storyline into one of her chapter, i'll state the stuff
course i wont make sense til u read the story, but tahts not the point here, lol. alsop, this is obviously not the EXACT order of sequence, u know wat i mean! there is obviously stuff in between all this, but anyway.
1. Iago comes back to the palace after the third movie.
2. He comes to tell them that Cassim is somewhere in some other place and wants them to visit so Iago's to show them the way
3. Jas and Al get separated thru a sandstorm
4. Genie and all the, , also disappear as a group after that sandstorm
5. well, the title is virtually the same
6. JAfar didn't actually die (plus she made him 'not die' the same as mine
7. Mozenrath found the non destroyed lamp
8. He used one of his wishes for them to find the amulet they both want
9. The amulet is located in a large hidden city
10. A particular scene in which I use Jafar, has been the same only using Cassim
11. Only someone 'pure of heart' can reach the amulet (only in my story it wasn't pure of heart, i drawed on the 'diamond in the rough thing'
11. That person is al
12. Moze and Jafar captured Jas as bait to draw aladdin into gettin gthe amulet
Ok, I can't be bothered going on anymore, but I've proven my point, at least I know u guys believe me! |

Noooooo, JASMINE is the one who is pure of heart! Not Aladdin!

I would say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but this is just awful |

That sucks. People like that may be one of the reasons I don't really get into fanfiction. Still, just as a writer and (currently) a comp/lit. teacher, plagiarism is just wrong. Glad you got her validation revoked for now. It shows she can't get away with it. |

Oh, that sucks.
I've seen that happen before, with two different writers for two different fandoms.
The original fanfic was written for Card Captor Sakura.
The copycat wrote their fanfic for Harry Potter.
Except, this person didn't even *try* to make it look like a different story. They literally copied *every single word and line* and the only thing that was changed were the characters' names. You could tell the writer of the HP fanfic was the one who stole because they slipped up a few times, and forgot to change a few of the character's very Japanese-sounding names in a few lines.
This isn't from memory, but the dialogue ended up something along the lines of,
"You should just tell Harry how you feel," Ginny said.
"I can't do that!" Hermione said.
"Why not?" Ginny asked.
"Because, Tomoyo, what if he didn't feel the same way?!" Hermione yelled.
::later on::
"I love you, Harry!" Hermione cried.
"I love you too, Sakura!"
But it really does suck this had to happen to you, diamond. At least everyone knows yours was the original one.

BALEETED
I need to go through the rest of hers and make sure she's not ripping anyone else off. But I'm predicting some plots stolen from Sindie, since I know for a fact she borrowed the name of Aladdin's mother from Sindie's fics (Carina). (At the time I thought she was just confused and thought that name was canon, but not so much anymore. )
Edit: And I immediately see a fic called "As Life Goes On", and Sindie has one called "And Life Goes On". Can't see any similarities yet, but Ali and Azul are in it, so I need to go talk to Evi about that because I know those guys really really don't like people stealing their characters. _________________ "If only I could believe you. WTF! Ok, that's just messed up! It's one thing to borrow ideas, especially if they're commonly-used, such as the pure of heart thing, but twenty in a row is just too coincidental. How is it that someone can just take someone else's work, thinking that if they change around some of the words, they can claim it for their own? Real writers don't go surfing the internet for stories to download and claim for their own. We come up with ideas inspired by this or that, and many times, an idea could take days to come up with. Not to mention the time involved with making something unique and different from everything else. So, it is very provoking when someone thinks, "Oh, a cool story/drawing/idea! I'll just put it on my own website!"
I'd be all over this girl's ass if she stole anything of mine. I realize the problem has been taken care of, but what's to say she won't do the same thing under a new name or at a different website?

Does taking things written by Ted Elliot, Terry Rossio, Bob Schooley, Mark McCorkle, and other series writers (who I should really know the names of ), pluralizing them (and/or giving the line to Cassim instead of Aladdin, for instance), and considering it original work count? _________________ "This cow's been covered with flour!" |

Thanks Calluna
I am a person who hates fakes of any kind, but especially in the creativity arena. i want to do fashion design when I leave school, and it pains me to see people toting fake designer stuff (I have developed an eye for identifying fakes from the real ting) It makes me worried, what if I reached that stage? Like, where Some concept that may have taken u tons of time to come up with, someone decides to seel illegally on the black market? It goes against everything I believe in, i also don't like it when people wear fakes, I mean what does that say about their style?
Anywhooo, I was incredibly pissed of when i found about the plagiarism thing. And also, I never would have, if VampireNaomi hadn't have told me!

That they can't afford the real thing, and the fake was cheaper?
Sorry, I don't care about name brand, and just wear what I think looks good. (Though I will admit there's a couple of brands of jeans I favour, but they're Levis and Bongo. And I need new jeans.)
Sorry, starting to go off on a tangent here.

If I'm going to say we can't use Disney's stuff without permission I may as well just take the whole site down. _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! After all... you do bear the name of a flower." -- Arbutus |
