Aladdin's "Okay, see yah there!" line sounds not pieced together/new even if his animation isn't? (and he's as clumsy as always <3) |
Okay, I was right. There's a behind-the-scenes clip during the commercials to Encanto that shows him in the booth saying the line |

I just got to watch it on disney+ and yeah, it was nice to see the gang and hearing Robin's voice also felt really nice. Definitely put a smile on my face after a rather exhausting one (working with a still healing sprained ankle was not exactly my best idea ever).
I also checked the Hungarian dub for it because I like many of the Hungarian voices for Disney characters (plus I grew up with them give me some slack) and I was so happy that everyone from the dub was in for the gang, especially Mikó István voicing Genie again after like what... *checks date* 27 years (oof, I'm getting old) since King of Thieves was released.
Also was a bit funny to then only 10 seconds later hearing the VA again just now voicing Pooh
Oh I didn't know Iago here is not voiced by Gilbert Gottfried. I first thought it was just an outtake voice line from the movie.
Also is it just me or Carpet designs is more closer to his original movie design, just now fully 2D? It definitely looked much more detailed than in the sequels and series and actually quite liked it.
It was a very nice short for sure and was nice to see the gang here.
Looking through the cast list and seeing Eric Goldberg being the head of the hand drawn animation parts is also really nice. He definitely has his touch on some of those animations (and would not surprise me if he animated Genie himself. Barely if anyone else drwas Genie's hands the way he does when they are folded either behind his back or on the side). _________________ You know your sanity is long gone when your favourites are a boy genius, a wacky genie, a mad man with a box and a deathberry |

Ooh, I didn't know they pulled the original VAs for dubs, too! That's a really nice touch. I know they asked Ruben Aquino to come out of retirement JUST to draw Ursula again, and I recognized quite a few animators in the credits that worked during the Renaissance era but have long since retired or do other things now. It's like seeing old family again.
Yeah, the producers wanted to add a joke in the short with The Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland and King Candy from Wreck-It Ralph interacting because Alan Tudyk based King Candy's voice off Ed Wynn's Mad Hatter voice, so he would just voice both despite them sounding very similar
Yes, that's the best non-CGI Carpet I've seen in a long time.
Oh, Eric FOR SURE drew Genie because he's the only one I know that does the curly fist thing you're talking about. He is gonna make sure Genie is on model every time and I respect him for that |

Yeah it was a pleasant surprise and from what I recall, they pretty much had every dub VAs who still alive (sadly VA of Ursula and Hades are dead). The only 1 who didn't return and still alive is Harkányi Endre for Clock but I guess that's more because he's very old now. He hasn't been really doing anything for a decade now.
Yeah, it definitely felt like a family reunion with the animation and such. It's also really nice some of the older animators also return.
And he better does lmao Seriously though, he still clearly loves drawing Genie. And yeah meant the fist curling, just my brain wasn't fully working last night. Again, it was just nice to see Eric animating Genie again. Heck, the combination of Eric animating him and hearing Robin's and Mikó's voice again was such joy to me. If only for that I'm glad they made this short. _________________ You know your sanity is long gone when your favourites are a boy genius, a wacky genie, a mad man with a box and a deathberry |
