In the cartoon series, the animators gave Genie this big, huge ugly jaw. Also, they made his nose too small, got the shape of his eyes wrong, colored him too pale, and forgot that he's supposed to be bioluminescent.

I think it depends on the studio; some are more on-model than others. And in that old article on the Family Channel Canada website they made a big deal about how they could change the coloring depending on the lighting and time of day so maybe that's why Genie's shade of blue keeps changing?

Thing is, though, Genie is always the same shade in the first movie, no matter what the ambient lighting is like. Well, except in broad daylight; then he appears slightly lighter. But not much.
