Atlantis Productions, through a special licensing arrangement with Music Theatre International, will stage the Asian premiere of Disney's Aladdin. Performances will begin in November at Manila's Meralco Theatre.

Disney's Aladdin features music by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Oscar winner Howard Ashman, Oscar winner Tim Rice and Tony Award-nominated lyricist Chad Beguelin; the latter also penned the book for the musical.

Based on the film, the musical, according to press notes, "tells the story of a street-smart commoner whose whole life changes with one rub of a magic lamp. The brand new romantic musical adventure incorporates all the beloved songs from the film’s Oscar-winning score and brings some of the movie’s most memorable characters to life. Jafar, Iago, the Sultan, the Genie and of course Aladdin and Jasmine come together to create a whole new world of magical musical theatre for the whole family."

Atlantis Productions’ creative head, Bobby Garcia, said in a statement, “We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Disney Theatricals with their brand new stage musical Disney's Aladdin, which only recently premiered in the United States. We are honored that Disney has handpicked us to premiere the musical in Asia. We look forward to creating the enchanting world of Agrabah and the romantic Arabian nights where Aladdin and Princess Jasmine take flight on their magic carpet ride. It will definitely be the musical event for families in 2012. We can’t wait to begin.”

Casting will be announced at a later date.

The outfits are very different from the Seattle cast. Similar vibe, but not as spicy Laughing (cultural differences?) I wonder if they changed everyone else's outfits, but I guess we'll see.
