Sorry for bringing this topic back from the dead (I actually had to go dig for it!), but something just occured to me today while watching an episode of Family Guy. It was the New Years episode where the city is destroyed in the year 2000. Anyway, Stewie, who was turned into a mutant octopus, said the line "That's it! Game over, man! Game over!" and I immediately thought of Genie at the end of the credits on KOT. So I did a little research and found the following:
The phrase "game over" also has taken on relevance outside of gaming. It is sometimes used to signify an abrupt end, similar to the one a player might meet in a video game. In the 1986 movie Aliens, Bill Paxton's character Hudson uses the phrase to indicate what he thinks is a hopeless situation: "... Game over, man! Game over!" This phrase, shortened to "Game over, man!", was later used as part of the game over screen of the SNES video game Alien 3, based on the film of the same name.
So, I'm guessing that's a reference to the movie Aliens. Forgive me if this is known and I am a few papers short of a paycheck.
I know this is a four-year-old thread, but I had such I big duh moment just now that I had to bring it back.
I'm watching "Some Enchanted Genie" right now (proofreading AG's transcript
) and right when Eden tells Dhandi her name the music in the background sounds a
lot
like the theme song of
I Dream of Jeannie
. A
lot
a lot alike.
Didn't think there was much left for me to notice after almost a decade and a half of watching the show.
Reading through the old posts:

I think the fire spitting guy from the first movie looks a lot like Lumiere in his human form.
Did not know this when this thread was made, but since then I've read that the fire eater is a charicature of
T. Hee
. Maybe Lumiere's human form is, too?

Yeah, I believe so. *would kill to get hands on old scripts*

Oh goody! I can't wait for ToB! But why is it so significant to Aladdin, besides setting? (I haven't heard much about it)
There's this theory/rumor/idea/whatever that a lot of our movie is based off that like with plot and character names and such.
It's supposed to go back to Linda Woolverton's script, if I remember right.

That too. I've only seen a little clip of it on the making of animated film video.

Y'know, we should compile everything from this thread into a list of "Recommended Viewing" for references.
