Ha, that's another thing! Any animal can get into the cave, but they're allowed to make wishes as well! Someone wasn't thinking.
Well, now that I think about it, the only one who ever said anything about animals being able to make wishes was Jafar; he could have been wrong...

Something I just realized today...
The Tiger God said that only Aladdin could enter the cave, but he let Abu in as well. Okay, makes sense; it doesn't count Abu as a person.
But then when Abu touches the treasure that *does* count? If Abu doesn't count as a person then why does it matter if he touches the treasure?
Although it's too bad for Jafar he didn't know about the whole "animals get in free" loophole; he could have just sent Iago in after the lamp. (If he trusted him not to touch the treasure, that is.
)
But Iago would probably have either touched the treasure or used one wish for himself. Couldn't risk that.

Abu by the way has really good self control considering he didn't out right grab everything in sight until they got to the lamp
Wait, what? The first thing he did when he got in the room with all the treasure was try to touch stuff
Yeah, that was just first point when Aladdin wasn't stopping him.

Well, personally, I wouldn't - because I'd be
expecting
the cave to do something like that. (Or at least set off some other kind of death trap.)

To be honest, I wouldn't really think a carpet on the floor would be part of the "NO TOUCHIE" rule either since you walk on them naturally, so I don't blame him for not freaking out or assuming it was. The Cave of Wonders might as well went ahead and killed them at the mouth if he was gonna be that strict and not let them step on the floor.
*Aladdin steps on the staircase*
"I SAID TOUCH NOTHING BUT THE LAMP!"
*cave eats them*
And Aladdin didn't physically see he was magical until he saw for himself, but by then he now knew Abu had a few encounters with him so he must be ok because I doubt Carpet was going "Ok, I touched your hat, so you go ahead and touch me! Go ahead...LOL you touched me when you weren't supposed to! Now you'll die
"

I just wonder why Aladdin didn't take Abu with him when he went up the stairs to the lamp. Yeah, leave the monkey who loves shiny things behind with the treasure you know you can't touch. And Aladdin is supposed to be a smart guy?
Judging by the "OOH SHINY" look on Abu's face, they didn't notice that when they got in there and I don't think Aladdin did either because he probably would have made sure he didn't touch it

I think it might be because Carpet is living, but not really real since he's...magic
. We aren't sure how Carpet got in there. He might not even be part of the Cave of Wonders and touching him doesn't apply to the "omg no touchie nothing but the lamp, u hor!!" rule. I think if he was, that place would have melted the second they touched him. But judging by how his meeting with Genie went, he's at least been in there before, or they've met outside the cave. I don't think he's part of it, but just got sent there with Genie or...something.
And maybe Abu, who was able to get in because he wasn't a person, set off the trap because he is living, has actual hands, and is an extension of Aladdin. Monkies do have similar DNA to humans. 99% alike, is it?

I think there are built in exceptions. Besides, Carpet's pretty autonomous, he does things on his own. He's both an object (ie, a sort of treasure), but I'm thinking over time he took on a resident aspect. If he helps someone, it's his choice and not so much a test of greed on the part of people who come in.
As far as Abu is considered, I think the Cave saw him as an extension of Aladdin as well as a companion. He was let in with Al in that respect. The whole no touching rule is pretty straightforward, no exceptions (except Carpet for what I said above).

What I and my brother always wondered was why they could touch Carpet. I mean, he's technically part of the treasure, so the cave should have collapsed on them when they first stepped on him.
