I'd forgotten that we'd ever even gotten a response to any of those petitions. Well, if they're actually going to write us back, then I'm not opposed to writing them again, at least to see if they're giving us the same excuses. They're not still doing the two-episode DVDs anymore, are they? I haven't seen a new one of those come out in awhile. Anyway, I thought that's what the OAVs like Disney Princess: Follow Your Dreams were meant to replace? (Although they might go back to that now that Lasseter's making them stop making OAVs...) I'm not seeing how a lack of seasons would be that big of a problem; Gargoyles had a similar situation, and they came out with "season 1, part 1", etc. (Although they never did come out with the entire run of Gargoyles on DVD so maybe that's not the best example. ) So they actually asked which episodes we'd most like to see? There were actually a lot of threads about favorite episodes in the past two years; if we do end up including that in whatever we write then those would be a good place to look for suggestions.
1. Considering there are 80+ eps, how about just dividing them 20 epsidoes per season?
That would be how I would prefer it. (There are 86 episodes, BTW.) The problem with that is that again you'd run into the whole issue of just what the real order is anyway: the episode numbers, the original order, or the order that Disney shows them in now on TV. (I would prefer episode numbers, but there's hardly anyone besides the people who hang out here who even know about them, so most people would think they'd put them in some kind of arbitrary order. ) The main advantage I can see to having them released out of order is that they could put out the episodes they thought would sell the best first, to see how they do. Most of us saw the episodes out of order originally and were able to understand what was going on okay; they're pretty episodic, there's not a lot of plot carried over from one episode to the next.
I don't get why Disney is making it more difficult than it has to be. No, Aladdin doesn't have official "seasons" but couldn't they always just divide the episodes and call them seasons on the DVD? Or forget about the whole "seasons" label and just have it say "episodes 1-10" on the DVD the way the "Select scenes" section says, "scenes 1-5?"
As your friendly neighborhood cynic, I'm of the opinion that they're making up bullshit excuses to avoid mentioning the 10-ton elephants in the room (9/11 and the Iraq War) which are their *real* reasons not to want to have anything to do with Aladdin. But the fact that they're actually responding gives me hope, as well as the sheer volume of cartoons from the '90s that have come out on DVD recently. Aladdin was insanely popular when it was on the air; it's a bit conspicuous in its abscence from the DVD shelves...
Well, I remember that I emailed Disney the petition but I believe it was Persian who got the response.
And I also remember sending an email asking why it has to be 2-per-DVD instead of a whole box set and I remember getting a response (and I think Persian got one as well).
But maybe it's all just confabulation and I'm remembering memories that never existed
Isn't there a way to email Persian about this?

"Dear Dinsey"?
AG: I guess we're looking for where someone wrote to Disney about getting the series on DVD and actually got a response...

I was supposedly a necromancer when I was new here, but I can't guarantee I'm actually GOOD at locating specific old threads rather than bringing back ones I'm interested in with reckless disregard of the date.

Nope, I didn't start it.
I think it was persian, too.
Here's the link

Well, I'm afraid we on't be able to start another letter unless we can dig up some old threads.
Who has a shovel?

If it was Persian then that's too bad, because the last time she posted was in May.
Need to start looking where she posted about getting a response...

I think it was most defenitely persian, too.
Maybe there's not much profit for me, maybe I won't ever even get those eps on DVD, but I'm all with you, guys! I'm ready to sign whatever it is, if it helps. (I think it's already good that Disney starts to talk about it.)

From how you were talking I thought you started it, APK.
Is this the one you're thinking of?

Who was the starter of the petition, here? S'he wouldprobably know what was up because I haven't heard any new news. So if you guys definitely want to do it we'd have to really put effort into it to show Disney we're serious.
1. First, we'd have to find the starter of the petition who I'm almost certain is a member of this board.
2. We'd have to write a letter explaining the whole thing
a. When the petition started
b. When Disney responded to us (this would be hard to figure out) and
the name of the one who sent us the email
c. That the fans are still interested
d. That they responded to us when we had but a mere 200 signatures
and that now we have around 400
e. an explanation that a 2-episode-per-DVD thing would be totally
pointless and would not make much money (this is where they
should react the strongest)
f. Our "just pretend we have seasons and call it a day" suggestion
g. it would probably be best to send this all in an email. I think they'd
still take it seriously because they took us seriously when we
emailed them the petition and we didn't even spell "Disney"
correctly
in our defense it was an honest typo
What do you think? I'm really tired of waiting! I want those DVDs before I graduate college, maybe?

They can do 21 episodes on 3 sets and then 23 on a 4th set. It's not that hard
. The MOST they'd have to worry about is making sure stuff like Some Enchanted Genie comes before The Book of Khartoum, or something like that. Character development might seem all over the place, but I'll live. If they at least gave us more of a base to work with, I'm sure we can figure out the rest on which order these go in if they don't want to. I'd hope they'd have that information hanging around, but I wouldn't be surprised if they lost it

I gotta agree with that
. I tried not to connect any of the neglect with merchandising in general with those things because I wanted to find other answers, but I keep ending up back there as reasons why, which is dumb really
