I was talking about before the series was even on the Disney Channel, back in 1994-5. Unfortunately they don't have the series on anywhere in the US at all anymore, even on the Disney Channel or Toon Disney.

That Garden of Evil is one of the series best written and well animated episodes is something (most) fans agreed upon since the birth of online Aladdin communities roughly 10 years ago.
Personally the writer(s) shouldn't make Aladdin act like a dork. Shoot first ask questions later isn't like him. A good example is the Hercules cross over episode in where Herc uses violence first while Al thinks first.

It
is
one of the better episodes, and I think you should try to see it if you get the chance; I think one of the reasons I'm seeing so many negative comments about it now is that several years ago there was a consensus of online fans that this was the
best episode ever
and that there's kind of a backlash against it now for that reason.
It's one of well-animated episodes, and I like the story, but it is kind of dark and serious, and Aladdin comes out of it looking not so good, so if you're okay with that kind of thing then it is a very good episode.
I have a transcript of this one but I finished going through and making screenshots and checking to make sure the wording is correct and all of the other things I want to do with it; the partially-edited transcript is
here
.
Then I really should see it
(Werid, there's Aladdin episodes i never saw or remember but I saw all The Little Mermaid series episode).
Thanks for the transcript
,it does seems too dark-
*SPOILERS*:
Aladdin just killed Arbutus thinking he's rescuing without even listening to her.
I think they should have showed Jasmine and Arbutus talking more.
The ending seems sad, espically what Jasmine said in the end,it was really sad
.
Anyway,good episode
.

There are a couple of clips on youtube, I think. This is actually one of the episodes that they came out with on
VHS
(and on DVD, too, if you can play region 2 DVDs...)

Or he did, and it was "off camera".

This is one of the ones done by Walt Disney Animation Australia; they seem to do most of the best-animated eps.

But I got the distinct impression that he was so set on saving her and defeating Arbutus, as if Arbutus was your standard baddie, that he did not seem to notice the wonders of the garden (aside from when it was trying to wrap them up in vines and rend them to pieces, I mean
). And he wouldn't listen to Jasmine. Neither did Arbutus when the fight got started, so both were being stupid males. But you see where I'm going.
Thoughts?
I've noticed when it comes to situations like this, I always still sympathize with people who are in Aladdin's situation more than the other tragic guy
. I'll be shot for saying this, but Arbutus bugged the mess out of me and I really didn't care that he died, and this is coming from another artist. He made us look crazy....even more so than we already are
.
Granted Aladdin usually has a pretty one track mind when it comes to situations where Jasmine is in danger, which is "get her out of it ASAP", but I don't blame him for not stopping and trying to see if this guy really is as bad as he's been displaying the whole time. I mean, he really didn't give him any other food for thought that would make him go "Aw, he isn't bad; he's just a crazy artist" like he had time with Jasmine to do so. We as the audience got to see that and make our own conclusions on if he's good or bad unlike some other people in that situation. He steals Jasmine, attempts to stop and kill them several times on the way in...that doesn't sound like someone who really wants to show you "hey, I'm not a bad guy!" to me no more than what sultan was trying to explain when he took a flower from his garden long ago. It's usually that gulliability that gets Aladdin in trouble to begin with when he DOES try, so I don't think he'd risk it when Jasmine is on the other end. Save her first, THEN he might listen to you and your crazy moon language
. But even then, Jasmine is more prone to listening and coming to agreements than Aladdin is.
I think it was just a battle of misconceptions, and in a way arrogance, and since we're suppose to get a message from it they had to make Aladdin look like a jerk for what he did......and we can't kill the star of the show

Yes, I had that in mind. I think what I was getting at is this is one of the rare times that Al's just barreling through. No plan, no scoping things out. All hack and slash. Appropriate for the circumstances, but odd.

Post subject: Garden of Evil
I just recently re-watched the episode "Garden of Evil." I had fun watching it again, loved Perlman's voicework for Arbutus. I have only two comments about it, but want to talk more about the episode in general as well.
1. I don't know about anyone, but I felt like it could have used like three to five more minutes, just to have a little more exposition. I think they did a pretty good job of the exchanges between Jasmine and Arbutus, I just felt there was more dialogue between the two. I don't know why, but it feels like it could have used a couple more minutes.
2. This is one of the few episodes where I was really annoyed with Aladdin. I definately empathize with what his goal; Jas was in danger and he wanted to save her at all costs. But I got the distinct impression that he was so set on saving her and defeating Arbutus, as if Arbutus was your standard baddie, that he did not seem to notice the wonders of the garden (aside from when it was trying to wrap them up in vines and rend them to pieces, I mean
