Does it matter what age the actors would be portraying "Aladdin" or "Jasmine"? |
No, I think if they look like the characters, that should be enough... though they should be close to the actual ages. |

Yes, the characters should be teenagers around "Aladdin" and "Jasmine's" ages, even if they don't look "exactly" like the characters. |

I was thinking last night, *suprise*, about who would be the best actors/actresses for the Aladdin characters. I mean, there are tons of famous actors/actresses out there, I'm sure there have been a few that you have thought would be perfect as a real-life "Aladdin" character.
I am not so sure of all the characters, so I thought you guys would help me out with your opinions.
I only have one suggestion:
Alyssa Milano~Jasmine... but then again, she may be too old, so give me your opinions!!! _________________ MysticMeg's Stories on THE LIBRARY OF AGRABAH!!!

I haven't thought about this much, so off the top of my head the only one I can think of is Richard Attenbourough as Sultan. (Those who have seen him in Jurassic Park will know what I mean. ) _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! After all... you do bear the name of a flower." -- Arbutus |

I would think it would matter you want them to be believe able. I can't believe that now a days they use adults to protray kids!! That just doesn't work. |

In Disney world, Aladdin and Jasmine in the original are 16&17 years old. WHAT KIND OF TEENAGER ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE THAT????
Jasmine is a beautiful, full figured, full breasted exotic beauty... at 16? At that age, ur just coming out of your akward age... and that tiny waist? Who axtually has one of them???
Aladdin is a Tom Cruise model... but Tom Cruise was not 17 when they modeled Aladdin after him. Most teenage guys are still lanky, or fat, or non-muscular.
My point is, there are very few teenagers out there that are perfect looking, but once the hormones slow down, it's possible. Adult actors are the only ones they can get to achieve the "look."
That's why they use adults. _________________ MysticMeg's Stories on THE LIBRARY OF AGRABAH!!!

Iago is a bird so there really is no need for a live actor which is good since gilbert should be the only person to do iago. I don't know anyone who can imitate his whiny voice. _________________

True, very true... they would have to use a real parrot and some voice overs... but Gilbert would have to do it. Gilbert is "Iago" just like Robin is "Genie." |
exactly. although dan was great as the genie, there's just nothing like the original. and if someone other than gilbert did iago it would just kill me _________________

That'd be weird. I would rather have a CGI Abu and Iago.
What would they do for the genie, for that matter? _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! After all... you do bear the name of a flower." -- Arbutus |

Well, from a former-Disney-theme-park-performer's point of view, the system works the way it is. It fits the continuity. Aladdin and Jasmine look a few years older because the movie happened a few years ago. They've been through the events of RoJ, the series, KoT (and the Herc episode if you count that as canon). It makes sense that they should be a few years older.
And quite frankly, you just can't hire as many teens in those kinds of roles. The bare minimum age you'll get is 16, and even that is rare in a face character. Generally they're 18 and up, because of less stringent labor laws.
You'd be amazed, though, some of the people who are well into their 20's that can pass for teenagers.
As far as individual actors go, Disney's California Adventure has found some really great performers for "Aladdin" over the last two years.
Miles Wesley, who was one of the original two lead Aladdins (they double-cast the show), did an amazing job. He's the one that's on the show's original cast CD. His singing voice sounds similar to Brad Kane's, and he looks a lot like Aladdin.
George Pellegrino was one of the other really good ones. Unfortunately, he was only an understudy. Really a shame, cause he was in my opinion the best yet. Great singing voice, had the look, everything.
For Jasmine, Dee Dee Magno rocks. Anyone watch the Mickey Mouse Club series that aired in the late 80's? Remember Dee Dee? Her! She's been at the show at DCA since the beginning, and is hands-down my favorite. She's also on the original cast CD.
Outside of DCA... hmmm... I'm with Heather on Richard Attenborough. Dead on! _________________ I don't need intelligent drugs, because I don't know what they are. But I will put anything into my mouth that is given to me, whether it's supposed to go there or not. Because... I'm different. |

I'm starting to regret asking this question. I was more wondering who you would have play "Aladdin", "Jasmine", "Cassim", "Sultan", "Jafar"... you know, the human characters. |
Scott with a really fakey deep voice and gray hair would make a funny (though inaccurate) Cassim.
*Shrugs*
I don't know, I never thought about it before.
*Ponders this*

If you have any ideas... I was thinking Jesse McCartney as Aladdin in the original... black hair might look pretty tasteful on him, an brown contacts. |
Naga! Naga! Sorry... that's my overbearing Jesse McCartney hatred coming out again.. _________________

Weeelllll, there are people who look older than their ages. I mean, Al sorta doesn't look 17-18, and Jas sure as hell doesn't look 15 going on 16. I'm 18 years old and people swear up and down that I am at least 25.

If you take away that beautiful and exotic beauty part, that sounds like me at 16, lol. I'm not gonna disclose my breast size at that age because that is one of those TMI moments, but trust me-it can happen at that age and well before it. Some people just age differently, but at the same time she is a cartoon-So anything goes.
A lot of people from that region of the world have tiny waist's like that. They actually wear devices to mold their waists to be that small. Hey, even in Mulan they were telling Mulan that she needed a tiny waist. *looks at self* Maybe not on this side of the world, but it is a possibility.

Aladdin's looks are based off Tom Cruise. Glen used volleyball players for Aladdin's body type because he said he needed that youthful, athletic look for Al. So that's possible too. Not that I am complaining on how he turned out And considering how much running around he does, I'd say it's normal for him to have a little bit of muscle on him. |
