"My friends call me Al. But you can call me--Aladdin." --Aladdin in RoJ
When I heard that I thought, "What do mean? No one calls you Al! Just Genie!" And even then Genie had a hard time coming up with something proper. "May I call you Al? Or how about Din? Or how about--Laddy!" Then in the series it was just Genie and Iago that called him Al. I excuse abu, rahja and carpet because they can't talk although Abu says a few word sometimes
I wonder why Jasmine and Aladdin never call each other by nicknames, with how long they've known each other? Aladdin could have used that to his advantage in the series when he as trying to be smooth. "I have to sift the sands to find a jewel..." Heck, even WE call them by nicknames...the only other character I can think of that can have a proper nickname is Jafar. "Jaffy. Can I call you Jaffy?" ---Hades

Abu calling Aladdin "Al" was actually one of the things that tipped Aladdin off that something was wrong in the episode "Shadow of a Doubt" because he never calls him that. It's always 'Awaddin' .
Iago has given everyone definite articles as nicknames: the rug, the monkey, the princess, the kid, the genie, the sultan, etc.
Aladdin has called Jasmine "Jas" before in "My Fair Aladdin".
Genie calls Carpet "Rugman", Aladdin "Al" and Jasmine "Jas" on occasions, of course. |

Okay, at the end of the original film, when Aladdin says "Call me Al," does anyone else start singing "You Can Call Me Al"? _________________ I don't need intelligent drugs, because I don't know what they are. No
But I did notice Iago calls Sadira "Little Orphan Sandy" or "Sandy" sometimes At the back of my princess collection tape Sadira is spelled Sandira. Am I the only one who has that tape and did a double take? |

I'm convinced they did that one on purpose.
I assume Jasmine doesn't call Aladdin "Al" because she tends to be more formal in general, the same reason she calls Sultan "Father" (except for that once in the first movie...) _________________ "If only I could believe you. Jasmine called her father by his first name?
Iago does call everyone by nicknames. He never really says Aladdin, just kid. The only one without a nickname I think is Cassim. Just maybe Al's dad, when Genie sees him first. _________________ "I too am a member of your species, Captain, or I was. Perhaps I am not anymore. Perhaps you are right in thinking of me as an alien. No, I mean that she called him "Papa" once instead of "Father". My guess is that's what she called him when she was a little girl. We don't actually know what Sultan's first name is (unless you use "Hamed" from the original treatment...). _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! I used to think that it was because Mom and Dad were mostly modern things, and didn't really go with the movie. But then, Al calls Cassim 'Dad', so I suppose you're right. It was more formal. _________________ "I too am a member of your species, Captain, or I was. Perhaps I am not anymore. Perhaps you are right in thinking of me as an alien. [quote] "Jas, Jas, Jas! The hair!" quote]
Is that a quote from the series? I don't remember...
Hey, Jasmine calls Sultan papa in the first movie? When?
Oh no, I've got early amnesia. Pretty soon I'll forget who Aladdin is! |

*searches transcript* Now I can't find it. It is a bad transcript, but maybe I just misremembered... _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! After all... you do bear the name of a flower." -- Arbutus |

I'm not remembering a 'papa' unless it's back dialouge or something....
Belle calls her father papa, but that's the only time I remember a papa |

What about "Jas, Jas, Jas the hair!" I don't remember that. Is that a quote from the series or some private joke that I can never hope to understand |
