I like Aladdin's Arabic singing voice. Jasmine's is kinda "eh". But man, I keep forgetting how harsh a language that is. They were struggling with some of those parts Laughing

Arabic is acually a beautiful language. I didn't find any struggling.

In the first chorus of "Prince Ali", the genie, in the line "Show some respect" actually says "yellah" or something like that, meaning "Hurry up"

Oh, I agree it's beautiful, but it just sounded harsh in some parts which I called a "struggle". The real back of the throat words.

I'm just being a dumb American. Don't mind me Laughing

I just listened to the Arabic version and I didn't find it harsh at all. But then again, my aunt taught me to make those sounds when I was about four years old, so...

There is one bad thing about Disney movies and cartoons in Arabic, they are all in the Egyption accent!

I don't mean any disrespect to Egyptions or their accent, but there is an ORIGINAL OFFICIAL UNITED Arabic accent that all Arabs agree on and use it in their media known as "Literary Arabic".

Arabs consider literary Arabic as the original standard language and tend to view everything else as mere dialects.

Its the same accent that was used in the original Arabian Nights stories in the past and it is the most beutiful Arabic accent. In reality, any one who spoke Arabic back at Aladdin's time would have used this accent.

Although no one today speaks it at home, its still used on everyday reading and writing and even most Arabic cartoons and translated TV shows use this accent because there are countless arabic accents that vary alot from each other that many Arabs can't understand all other Arabic accents!

In fact, all Arabic shows I know that tell stories from historic times like Aladdin use this accent because it was the accent used in ancient times, and even Disney Arabic magazines use this accent because all other accents such as Egyption are not typically written.

I hope Disney fixes this mistake!

Maybe that would get rid of some of that "OMG WHY DO ALL THE BAD GUYS HAVE ARAB ACCENTS AND NOT THE GOOD GUYS?!?!" claims, too since they're probably going off that stererotypical Arab accent sound, too Laughing

Yes, the Arabic language accent and dialect differs in each country. But for the media purposes I also do not get why they dont use an official united accent.

On the same side as Aladdin, but they still don't like him very much. Laughing Actually, even in the first movie I think the guards had American accents. Or at least Rasoul and Hakim did; not sure about the others.

If the Egyptian dialect is so different from classical Arabic I'm surprised they didn't make more than one translation, since they did that with other languages (two French, two Portuguese, at least three Spanish).

About Rasoul, that we know, because we know Pete (Goofy's neighbour on Goof Troop) and how he sounds like, It is the same person.

P.S. You're missing Chinese, of which there are at least 3 seperate Translations (Cantonese, Mandarin, and Thai)

Is this (شكرا ) Shukran by the way? My mom was born in Lebanon in 1944, though she was living here in Quebec since 1962; My dad was born in Egypt in 1936, but he moved out in 1960's and spent 4 years in Brazil before coming to Canada (I am Armenian, by thwe way). He died in 1997. He was often speaking in Arabic to some of his friends, and so I picked up one or two words. At the time, besides swearing, I only knew one word: Hamdullah.

I hope I got this right, Desert Bloom 92:

كان أنت مرحب.

you got the letters right in Shukran, but if you want to be more accurate, you shuld put ( ً ) in the end like this شكراً because without it it would actually be read "Shukra" without the letter "N" in English (I hope I didn't confuse you!) Rolling Eyes

The one word you knew is actualy two words wich are "Alhamdu lillah" wich means "thank God", but can you translate what you meant in your last Arabic words كان أنت مرحب because it didn't make any sence, its like you were trying to say you were welcome, but in a wrong way!

Sorry about your father's death.
