Somehow I came across this in the wiki for Jasmine and kinda stared at the page for a minute:

Controversy
Parents responded with outrage to the film when it was released, claiming that such an outfit was "outrageous" and "whorish." Consequently, the film was pulled from shelves in 1993 and a new version was released with Princess Jasmine wearing a shirt that covered her middrift. This pleased the protestors for the time being, but eventually public demand led to a re-release of the film with the more revealing clothing in 1994.

Yeah, fuck what the parents had to say, but--did they really pull copies of the movie down and put up a new version? I'm gonna have to find this if it's true Laughing

. I know she's covered up on the Arab covers, but....

This is the first time I've ever heard anything about this.

As for "version," I'm guessing here they're talking about a different version the cover art as opposed to a different version of the film.

...Actually, a different version of the cover art does sound rather plausible. Check out the differences in these pictures.

In the first picture, Jasmine's stomach is revealed; in the second one her arm is in the way.

Maybe they mean in Saudi Arabia or other Middle Eastern countries? I know they have Jas in a long-sleeved shirt on their covers for the series tapes...

I've never heard such things..i've read that people say that all aladdin charaters are too sexy for a cartoon..but the cover thingy no..In Saudia Arabia they usually covers jasmine,ariel's cover pictures but inside the movie itself u see everything..and thats not in all middle east just Saudia Arabia.

If this was true we should have known about it somehow in all those years.

Since that paragraph is faque if Jasmine is covered in the actual feature film or has Heather says cover art. Plus the fact it isn't mentioned what country this is possessed to have taken place I have a hunch it might not be true and take it with a grain of salt.

Perhaps the editor is one of those people who make things up and pose them as fact. I heard Wikipedia is prone to such people but haven't seen it personally.

btw: ugly picture of Jasmine. Doesn't do her justice at all.

Yeah, I agree. Either someone deliberately making things up, or getting cover art confused with the actual movie, or else this happened in some other country that we don't know about and they just didn't specify. Laughing

Er... I don't see Jafar as quite measuring up to the prettiness of well-established pretty-boys, such as Sephiroth, Gackt*, and Mozenrath.

*I have been advised to "WARN PEOPLE!!!" before showing them pictures of Gackt. That's how pretty he is. You have been warned.

All I have to say about the mid drift thing is it's THE DESERT! I'm in micro shorts and a cut-off spaghetti strap shirt because it's like 90 degrees out on campus today... and why? because I live in a desert called Phoenix!
