It's not just you. I want to kill... er... at least seriously maim females who can't do anything more useful than loudly flapping their yapperytraps during tense situations. _________________

In the movies, she's okay -- except for a couple of lines in RoJ ("More secrets, more lies? Aladdin, I thought you had changed!" "But how? He's soooooo powerful!"), but in the series she drives me NUTS! Whenever they get into trouble, she's either socking the villain's lights out (cool) or standing around crying "Aladdin!" in a plaintive manner to the tune of two or three times an episode. Flaws make you human. Bipolarism makes you obnoxious. |
Well that to me sounds like that would make her sound even more like a normal person with flaws. You can't be kicking everyone's ass and winning all the time |

No, but she could at least try to beat them up instead of standing around whining when things start to look bad. _________________ *

I'd say it depends on what said person has. I'm not gonna go kick someone who's 100 feet tall and can shoot laser beams from their eyes
What example are you thinking about specifically, though? |

Jasmine is headstrong, independent, and free-spirited. True, she might get a little cranky and get mad for no reason, having Aladdin to explain everything, e.g. after the magic carpet ride when she decided to burst the bubble, but that's what makes her Jasmine.

I admit I really disliked Jasmine when I saw the first movie. I can't even remember exactly why anymore, because with RoJ and then the series, I liked her very much. However Jasmine is the reason I don't think I will ever post the sequel to the first movie I wrote right after seeing it, as I made Jasmine *such* a pain in the ass. I admit it was fun to write, but it was really mean.
But I do, and always have, even when I didn't like her, think she is the *prettiest* of all the Disney heroines. Bar none. _________________

I went through a period of hating Jasmine, and I think that's reflected in one of my posts to this thread, so I kind of want to apologize. Basically what happened is, I watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame and fell in love with Esmeralda. Then I went back and watched Aladdin again and realized that Jasmine was a little bit like Esmeralda, and that maybe the only reason I didn't like her was that Jafar doesn't. (I'm not going to argue with people who say he finds her attractive, but that is NOT the same thing as liking her.)
So yeah...I like Jasmine now. Now I only need to get rid of my strange irrational dislike of Aladdin! Oh wait. Jafaria, wake up and smell the hummus, that's never gonna happen. |

I never really noticed that Jafar finds Jasmine attractive. I always thought it was just because Iago said he might become sultan, and then they'd drop papa in law and the little woman off a cliff. That that was why he wanted to marry her.
How could you hate Aladdin? I hate Jafar. Well, not that much, just because he's a villaiin, and he is pretty ugly, I just like his voice. _________________ "I too am a member of your species, Captain, or I was. Perhaps I am not anymore. I'm one of those odd people who think Jafar is more attracted to the power Jasmine holds than she herself. I mean, yeah, the guy said "make her fall in love with me lawlz", but he was going on a power trip as it was at that point, and what better way to top that off than the royal who was suppose to be in the position you are now? Not to mention she was already his slave and he knows damn well how headstrong she was about keeping her independence and making her own decisions on what she has to do, so instead of her combining her power with his and being his queen afer she refused, he just took it from her and she had NO choice in the matter. It's a interesting power play dynamic, I think. Maybe through THAT he found her attractive, but I dunno. I just have a hard time believing Jafar found Jasmine "zomg so hawt". He probably thought she was a freakin' brat |

I've always rather agreed with that. The pleasure he took in the kiss aside (its probably due to him not having partaken in a kiss in FAR too long ), I don't think he was attracted to Jasmine. Like, at all. Not that he probably found her ugly just...I don't think he actually wanted her. _________________

Even the kiss, I think, was playing in to that. He's had to take orders from her and deal with her crap for SO LONG, and now she's on HIS time and doing what HE wants. I don't think that scene would have been nearly as cool if Jasmine's personality and overall "you don't tell me what to do" attitude wasn't there. |

Ah, well, I myself did not say that I think Jafar was attracted to Jasmine. I merely said I would not argue with those who do. I myself think that she could be the ugliest princess ever and he'd still want to marry her because she's a symbol of control of Agrabah. Which means I agree with AG. Then again, I usually do. |

I could have put this in a nother threat, but you guys wer alreadytalking about heroines that whine and complain and are forever callin their man, so I thought I'd put it here, cause it relates to Jasmine which relates to THAT. Anyway, These are the lyrics to a new Beyoncé song, titled "Flaws and All" and it soooooooooo makes me think of Jasmine.
Check it out, for yourselves:
Flaws And All lyrics
I'm a train wreck in the morning
I'm a bitch in the afternoon
Every now and then without warning
I can be really mean towards you
I'm a puzzle yes in deed
Ever complex in every way
And all the pieces aren't even in the box
And yet, you see the picture clear as day.
[Chorus]
I don't know why you love me
And that's why I love you
You catch me when I fall
Accept me flaws and all
And that's why I love you [3x]
I neglect you when I'm working
When I need attention I tend to nag
I'm a host of imperfection
And you see past all that
I'm a peasant by some standards
But in your eyes I'm a queen
You see potential in all my flaws
and that's exactly what I mean.
And it continues in the chorus after that, but those are the main lyrics. Aren't they just lovely? the first couple of lines remind me of her a lot, adn the "When I need attention, I tend to nag" What do y'all think? |

I think you are completely right. Jasmine is 100% that song.
Hey. I am new to the forum. If anyone wants to know anything, you can ask. Otherwise, I'm going to jump in head first and not look back.
I am part of another forum which is about Disney in general, and there is a thread somewhat like this. I was saying how I think Jasmine is probably the best out of all the princesses because the others are just nice to look at and don't have much stubstance. The only other one I can think of that I would want my kids to look up to would be Ariel, but really her only flaw is that she's young and, therefore, a little dumb. I think Jasmine is the best because, as some of you said, you love her FOR her faults, not despite them. Also, she is gorgeous, and doesn't need a huge froofy dress to show how beautiful she is. |
