I think childbirth and disease are more likely otherwise Disney probably would have made an episode or another movie about the murderer or have her be found or something.
Plus I made a fanfic way back when in which she died in childbirth (mixed with malnourishment) 
P.S. According to the spellcheck "malnourishment is not a word.... but it definitely is.
