If the guards didn't show up to arrest Aladdin when he and Jasmine were first meeting, what do you think would have happened? _________________

Um, yell...judging from the fact that they were about to kiss...and all that...I would say, they would've had to end up getting married without him pretending to be a prince. _________________ "I too am a member of your species, Captain, or I was. ...they'd go out for dinner and a movie?
Maybe something along the lines of kiss, Jasmine's senses kick in, she feels bad and she goes "D: I have to tell you the truth, but don't get mad and don't tell anyone", Aladdin goes "wtf", Jasmine tells him she's the princess, he goes "o_O wut?", she reveals herself proving she is and telling him what happened, and Aladdin freaks out for a number of reasons like being certain he's dead meat if they find her with him, why did she lie to him?, feeling like a douche for being that open with her, etc. |

If the guards aren't coming for Aladdin then this would be an alternate universe where Jafar's not trying to get the lamp, then? Sooner or later they'd notice the princess was missing, and then they'd send the guards out looking for her. So Jasmine would pretty much have to come clean with him about her identity, to explain why she was hiding. And they'd probably have to flee Agrabah eventually...
It would be hilarious if you had a scene where Aladdin gets mad at Jasmine for lying to him. _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! After all... you do bear the name of a flower." -- Arbutus |

The Spanish Inquisition would have shown up instead. _________________

This is only tangentially related, but it's been bugging me lately: if Jasmine had succeeded in running away, who would have been next in line for the throne? _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! After all... you do bear the name of a flower." -- Arbutus |

That would have been awesome, if the Inquisition had shown up.
Hmmm, I guess no one. Or they would choose a distant cousin or something. _________________ "I too am a member of your species, Captain, or I was. Perhaps I am not anymore. Perhaps you are right in thinking of me as an alien. I know I am different from you. You see-I do not kill." |

I think they might have been screwed
Maybe a cousin or relative of Sultan's or something? I guess it depends on if they're trying to keep it in the family like it seems they've managed for a very long time |

Jafar probably would've weaseled/hypnotized his way in.
Or a cousin.
Either that or the Sultan would've had to get busy with Queen Hippsodeth... real fast. _________________

Lol, the thought of the sultan getting busy with anyone is kind of disturbing.
I guess Jasmine never really thought about how she would have screwed over her kingdom if she left permanently or got kidnapped or killed. royalty running away from responsibility = theme in Disney films.
Little Mermaid and Lion King come to mind. Any others...? _________________ Sung and written.

Mulan maybe, I think it's a theme more used in modern Disney flims then in the oldies since I can't think of any carrying this theme. |

Hmm interesting. I saw Mulan as a girl running toward greater responsibility actually, to stand up for her family. She's actually my favorite Disney heroine because she's not bratty or petulant, she's brave and from the beginning she knows what it means to make sacrifices on behalf of others. Belle is also like that. Jasmine and Ariel are probably the most spoiled princesses I can think of, at least at the beginning of the movies they're in. But I'm getting way off topic now.
It would be really interesting to explore how Jasmine might handle street life after it lost its initial enchantment. Lack of money = major problem. Once she got hungry or wanted to sleep in a place not infested with fleas and in danger of being robbed, she'd probably want to return to the palace.
Or maybe I'm underestimating her.
I've been trying to explore her and Al's differences in one of my fanfics and it's been interesting. Their relationship really is an impossible one, or at least highly improbable. I mean they were brought up so differently, neither of them ever having a glimpse of the other's world before they met each other. But I guess that's what makes their relationship more beautiful. All the same, it could easily have ended up a disaster once the initial charm faded. _________________ Sung and written.
