Hehe...I just got a package from my mom today with some news articles she thought would interest me (about things like opera singers and Disneyland), and that Opus comic was in there, too. My mom must have thought I would care to see Aladdin or something. Taken as a joke and out of traditional character, I found it amusing. (I'm generally a Disney purist, but hypothetical weirdness is my friend...like when one of my friends and I plotted a catfight between Ariel and Belle that ended with Jasmine putting both in their place with a bad pun...or the time I dressed my Aladdin doll in Belle's gown...) |

Yeah, Jasmine would whoop both their butts
And my Aladdin doll frequently wore Ken's clothes since he was my only male barbie for a long time |

Well, there was no physical violence...
One of my best friends and I are huge Little Mermaid fans, and I have a Disney Princess beach towel, on which my friend thinks it looks as though Belle is deliberately trying to upstage Ariel by standing in front of her with her skirt held out in a curtsy (Ariel is in Mermaid form on said towel and thus takes up not much space). He said "So, who does Belle think she is, anyway?" and a group of my friends decided that Ariel would take Belle in a fight but Jasmine would take both.
So, I drew Ariel in her pink ballgown admiring herself in front of Belle who scowls and says something along the lines of "Please, just because you have a dress on for once doesn't give you the right to steal all the limelight!" In drawing 2, Belle steps in front of Ariel, twirls her gown, and replies "If you're going to do the dress thing, do it right! Look where it got me! My movie's signature scene and a best picture nomination!" Drawing 3: Ariel says "Puh-LEASE! The scene was memorable for the sentiment, CGI, and the song...which YOU didn't sing, I might add, so don't you go around thinking you're the one who wears the pants in this princess franchise!" An "offstage" voice calls "AHEM!" Drawing #4 (which I never actually finished, but planned in my head): Jasmine, in red outfit, says "That would be ME." Ariel and Belle cringe.
So...yeah. Not something I think would ever think would happen if these characters A. were real and B. ever met. But good for a laugh for my friends and I. |

That's great - you should finish the last drawing and scan it in. _________________

Oh that's hilarious. I was working on a picture of Jasmine doing something evil to the Disney princesses because whenever she finally is on something she's ALWAYS in the back or in that dreaded bird pose |

What is it with that bird pose? Do they think it looks good or something? _________________

Why don't they have anything better to use? I think I could come up with something that looks better than that stupid bird pose - and we allllllllllll know my level of drawing abilities. _________________

YOU come up with something?
.....
Seriously, though. They REALLY need something else. All the characters have those repetitive pictures |

Inside that one karaoke thing, they had her doing a "forbidden dance."
Even though, might I add, none of her songs were IN the album! Oh sure, include "Candle on the Water" and not "A Whole New World." _________________ You can never have too much Baklava.

It's not the making fun of Disney that bothers me (I thought the other jokes in the last panel were funny), it was the whole Arabs = terrorist thing. I'm really, really tired of people politicizing our fandom.
Well, in ways other than the original way it was supposed to be political... |

Oops, I'd posted this in the wrong thread....
My biggest problem with princess merchandise is that they seem to have given most of the princesses new poses in the past few years, but that bird pose has been around since the FIRST RELEASE OF THE MOVIE!!! And the one they like to use of Ariel where all her hair is all on ONE side of her head and looks kind of ratty and not nice to me is also old. I bought a princess poster to hang in my dorm room (because it was only $3 ), but I eventually tired of the fact that it was pink and that the only ones I really liked the poses for were Cinderella and Belle. I'm a die-hard fan of the Disney princesses (in case you didn't get that from the user name), but I don't really care for a lot of the merchandise where they put them all together...they end up sacrificing a lot of the character design on several of them...they curve up Snow White, make Cinderella ultrablonde and her dress ultrablue (I really don't like the way they portray Cinderella on a lot of merchandise, actually...I don't think it looks anything like her), make Aurora overly angular (she still had a grace and gentleness to her look in the movie, people! Stylized does not mean pointy!) and ALWAYS put her in pink, and they usually exaggerate Ariel's face shape a lot. Belle and Jasmine (if she's there!) usually look the best, but still often not...right. I have one princess poster that's NOT made expressly for little girls and is quite pretty...I should try and find a link...
And Calluna, I do get what you mean about the terrorist bit...I hated that I really felt obligated to take down the DOZENS of pictures of Aladdin in my locker after 9/11 because people were talking. |
