So, you know how they changed a couple of lines of "Arabian Nights" after an Arab-American group complained? I was just thinking, did that happen in any other language edition besides the English one? (I have a vague memory of hearing one time that they'd changed the Dutch language version, but I have no idea where I heard that or if I just dreamed it up.) _________________ "If only I could believe you. They did change the Dutch lyrics for the DVD release. After 12 years the singer came back to record just for those lines. The thing is he couldn't reproduce his original accent and so the new lines don't fit in with the rest.
There comes by the orginal lyrics where
"als je steelt knijpt men hard in je arm dat doet pijn maar ach het is hier fijn"
In English it says something like:
"when you steal they pinch you in the the arm that's fine because it's great here"
Quite innocent if you ask me.
The 2004 version"
"zie een fata morgana knijp dan in je arm want het is helaas pure schijn."
In English
"you see a fata morgana then pinch yourself because it's just a mirage" |
